I have just got a newish horse and have had about 5 days hunting on him. I am hunting him in a pelham which is what I was advised to do and have breaks on him!
The problem is that he is starting to snatch the reins from me and throwing his head about to get a looser rein. We seem to be fine jumping and in the faster passes as I let him go with a relatively loose reing but the problem is that he won't stand still so I find I am holding onto him and also when we are walking along as again he jig jogs along and I obviously need to keep a hold of him so we won't over take the fieldmaster. He is definetly better on going days and seems to get fustrated when we don't really go anywhere so again I probably hang onto him more.
I think I need to learn to soften my hands and not hang onto him so much in stand still and walk, but how do I do this and what would you advise?!
