We, that is vet, farrier and I think this is whats wrong with my pony . He sometimes walks on his right hind toe, probably due to pain in the heel. nerve blocks confirm its the foot that is in pain, but x-rays don't show any sign of bone damage.
Rest is the only option, and I have been told it can be 12 months to heal
Yup & if you search you'll find a few other posts on it because Im sure I write this post at leasdt twice a month
My horse, who has very upright legs, had big soundness problems last summer; these problems were caused by the hard ground and resulted in concussion injuries in both fetlocks, knees & shoulders. He was much initially much lamer on the off fore than the near fore, however because he compensated for such a long time he eventually went lamer in the near. After much arguing with my vet, it was decided it was likely to be a soft tissue injury in the coffin joint; box rest didnt really help, but joint was medicated & he came sound overnight, never had a recurrance of the problem!
Did a quick search & here are several posts discussing soft tissue injuries; also given you a couple from "toggled" post list, so apologies if some of them are useless emotional garb & sorry if some are a bit irrelevant, but it should give you a wider reaching idea!
Thanks so much for that... I'll go and have a read of them now.
She went yesterday and they said worst case scenario would be that it was a soft tissue damage caused by her tripping (so a ligament or tendon in the foot). But what I find really hard to understand is that she had been worked for over 50 mins, so surely all her tendons etc would be warmed up at that stage and supple????
I suppose it can happen at any point, my horses occured when he was on box rest & the only excercise he was having was 20 mins walking in hand daily (with the odd bucking fit thrown in for good measure!)
