Yesterday afternoon we toddled off for our dressage. It was reallll hot and after some confusion with the steward, I slightly overcooked the warmup and then went wrong in the test! 39.5 - a deserved score for a test with minimal sparkle yet obedient.

Today, it seemed bizarre weather. Trudged out and got there, through thick old fog and then lightening appeared as did thunder and torrential rain. Lovely mare warmed up fab but due to an injury I could not stud her (without her killing me anyway!) and I was already doubting the likelihood of this working as the hard ground simply wasn't absorbing the awful and nonstop rain. Then the final blow - there was no doctor on site and we had a 25min hold. If it was ok weather I wouldn't've minded but it was awful and Tia is famous for being rather impatient and I knew she'd switch off. Went into the ring and the rain worsened, the thunder continued and after stumbling over the first fence, I decided to call it a day. No point wrecking her confidence for the sake of it.

Seems that judging by the results, similar thoughts were echoed by all with many withdrawals, cricket scores, retired horses and eliminations

Thankyou for reading a very dull report.

I thought BE events weren't allowed to run without medical cover on-site? I know for Larkhill they got in Army medics just so they had SOMEONE medical on site incase anything happened.

Sounds like you had the same sort of weather we did at Firle! Definately always better to save her for another day - good decision and at least you've got a clear conscience as such. If you had run and something had happened type thing...

Sorry you didn't get a chance to jump the fence you had the problem with last time but better safe than sorry. At Draycott , when we arrived it was so hot and moved my chair into the shade .Half an hour later it was pouring and cold, British weather.

Yeh - we had a 20min hold while they got hold of a doctor, who cruised on site with about 30 horses hiding under trees with grumpy looking riders!

Hi, I think you went before me in the dressage on Sat,I probably looked pretty miserable as I wasn't that chuffed with our dressage although we got 35.8, he was just really switched off. I couldn't believe the weather yesterday. I got on my boy who is only 5 and started to walk towards the sj warm up, we had already had a few claps of thunder and lightning, the rain was belting down and he was very tense, suddenly there was another clap of thunder and lightning and he jumped out of his skin so I turned around and put him straight back in the trailer. As we drove out I couldn't believe how many people were huddled under one tree waiting for the sj to start. It was such a shame we didn't get to run but thought it wasn't a good idea to risk upsetting him at such a young age.
