Solar light for stable

Does anyone use a solar light for their stable? I would be looking to hang the light in the centre of a fairly large stable so the lead to the solar panel would need to be fairly long. Also looking for something that has different light settings so I could use it on bright mode for mucking out etc then a dull mode overnight for my old horse.
 
I have for years. I would say there are not many that will be able to charge enough in winter for a dull light all night (unless you want to spend XXX).

I rate them - work with a remote that I glued on a wall magnet in a location horses can't reach. The light is good and the panel is big enough to collect a decent amount of charge during even overcast days. I also have some motion sensor ones for when I arrive on the yard before I turn ont he proper lights which was a life save over the last few years, but I disable them overnight so they don't keep going on and off once horses are in.
 
If you want a constant supply of energy you can buy solar panels which store excess energy to a battery. I had one to allow me to clip, run a fan, etc. It was expensive but not ridiculous.

Or ryobi one lights, then look at the ryobi knockoff batteries and lights if it's out of budget. We have one that we took camping, was on low all night and 4ah battery lasted the full 5 days.

Or ryobi - like batteries with the inverter so you can plug a light into it.

I like ryobi......
 
I got cheaper ones (than MissTyc did) from Powerbee for the sheds at the field and they've been faultless since installed (8 years for one of them). Small panels and battery on on mine, though, so you can't expect hours of light in the winter (though they often surprised me by how well they held up when I used to pony-sit in the hayshed on bonfire nights). Powerbee do seem to supply ok kit at good prices.
 
@dixie can I ask a really silly question about the Cherry lights? I've bought a pack and I don't know how to tell when they're charged. I plug it in and there's a solid red light....but I don't know what that means! Instructions are no use.

Sorry to hijack but why do you want a dull light overnight? Not judging, but is it a good for an animal to have constant light even if low, shouldn't they have some dark hours in every 24? Genuinely don't know the answer so am curious rather than critical.

I'm just curious to see if it helps my old boy settle more. In his previous stable there was always a dull light due to how the solar lights were set up and he was very settled. Of course it may have not had anything to do with the lights. As he is getting older it takes him longer to settle after a routine change. They have been out for 6 months and will be coming in over night from tomorrow. Never heard of horses having to have some dark hours, I may have to look that up!

I can’t remember. I’ve not had to use them since the early spring. I’ve just switched one on tonight expecting it to need a charge but it’s still going !
I would’ve thought You would need the red light to go out or change to indicate it’s charged. I’ll check later when I need to charge one up.

Thanks! I charged one for a couple of hours and I've fitted it in the feed room - it's pretty great. Very pleased. We don't have electric on the yard so I'm looking forward to a winter without needing a headtorch for everything
