Sold fom underneath me!!

If you want the horse, pay a deposit that day and ring the vet whilst you’re stood in the seller’s yard in front of them.
I use an independent PPE specialist vet so he’s always available at short notice, and not the seller’s vet.

Just put it down to lesson learned - this one wasn’t for you. Hopefully the next one will be 🙂

I've had one where the vetting had been booked for more than a week and then 9pm the night before the vetting I was told they were selling to someone else as they didn't want the horse xray'd. Buying a horse atm is a miserable experience. I see quite a lot for sale in that area, which is too far away for me, so hopefully you will get lucky soon.
Sounds like you dodged a bullet there.

You may have had a lucky escape. It would be interesting to know what she would have said if you had told her up front you wanted a vetting. I'm suspicious you had "priority" until you told her you were thinking of a vetting, when suddenly she goes quiet and then later the horse is already sold.

Seller is in Kent? Have you checked her out, it's a notorious area for a dodgy dealing ring?
.
Agree with this. Yes, Kent has a good many dodgy dealers. I had a similar thing happen some years ago with a well know show rider. I had been and ridden the horse out hacking and liked it. Said I would get my vet to vet him but would like my friend to come down the next day and see him but would arrange the vet meantime. That night tried to contact seller, no reply. Next day got a phone call saying that a deposit had been put down and horse was being vetted the following day. It was definitely very dodgy and I think I came out the lucky one!

I posted last night asking for success stories for vettings.
The horse I viewed yesterday has been sold today after the seller told me that I had priority and she would hold off on any other viewers until I gave her an answer. I messaged her last night saying that I was considering a vetting, to which I had no reply. I then messaged again this afternoon asking when she would be avalaible for a vetting to which she came back with the horse, an Irish TB in Kent area, has been sold pending the vetting with a cash deposit, all while she told me that I had priority.
So angry, especially as she was such a lovely mare and would've fit in perfectly. Please learn from my mistakes.

Now back to the drawing board after my last horse died in December and have had nothing to ride privately in the meantime. If anyone is in Essex area and has anything for sale, even if its a bit outisde, please let me know :)
I had similar with a horsebox, some lady went to see it on the Saturday, but had not organised anything like a check. I went to see on the Sunday, I tried and Liked it and said I wanted a check he said other lady had done no checks as bank holiday Monday, Well I got Tristan from Leicestershire to go out on the Bank Holiday.

He called me after said it was ok just a few small issues, So I called them He said he passed it and I wanted it he said. ohhh errrr ummm can you call me later, I said ok. When I called he said the other lady had bought it. She used my ruddy £ 75 check to say yes, so what must have happened this (&*Yiotch ) must called the other lady told her my mechanic had past it and she must said ok I will buy it. Then told me it was sold GRRRRRRRRRR.

Not all bad in the end - on that Bank Holiday Monday evening a box newer than the one I lost which was a 1995 showed up on Magazine, had past MOT the day before, I went down on the Tuesday My mechanic Nick went to see it said all ok just few issues so I bought it, it is a 2003 so UP his the nasty man I ended up with newer nicer lorry.

If you neither offered a deposit nor arranged a vetting, you can't really complain.
While looking for an RDA horse, I must admit that i was livid when one was sold between the date I had arranged to view and the re-arranged (by the vendor) date but I was most cross because he didn't let me know. I had to chase him. Horse was sold unseen. I told him I could only assume that he was frightened of a vetting.
Pearlsasinger, did this happen recently, that the horse was bought unseen?

If I hadn’t established that a horse was open to any vet up front then I wouldn’t have got in the car to go and view it. I don't usually get horses vetted but I certainly want to know I can.

In this case I think people maybe being a bit unfair on the seller though. No deposit and no vet booked, they're well within their rights to sell to someone else.

She was within her rights, however it would've been nice if she had been honest without giving me her word. I was booking the vetting the second my vets opened as they were shut on the weekend- nothing I can do about that as the viewing was on Saturday and I asked when she was avaliable on the Sunday so I could book it the second they opened.
Lesson learned- deposits! :)

Just to give you the other side although I only sell a couple a year. Unless I feel as though you’re willing to gnaw your own arm off to buy my unicorn it would most likely be a no from me.

If you view a horse and it doesn’t give you butterflies and want to move the sale on ie let’s vet etc then I you should walk away anyway.
