sole bruise?

can anyone tell me how long these take to resolve? my boy is on day 5 of a sole bruise but still has heat in foot despite bute. vet has been.

what are the signs a bruise is turning into an abcess?

or worse? vet wants to xray monday if no improvement.

Probably abscessing I'd think if you have heat and a pounding pulse. They can sometimes take a few weeks to fulminate I'm afraid.

yes thats what i was afraid of. bruise -> abcess . no pulse at the mo, but will see what hes like tomorrow when off the bute.

Worth getting the vet though if it does not get better in the next few days - could be a soft tissue injury or even damage to the pedal bone.

But then again it might just be an abscess taking a couple of weeks to get to the point of being a proper abscess....one of my geldings had one that never burst, he was lame on and off for months and eventually he shed off a great chunk of his side wall and had a pocket of old gunk and infection behind it that I cleaned out and trimmed away all the damaged hoof. He's barefoot, so digging in a 25mm deep sole was not something the vet really wanted to do - he's sen the xrays and knew how thick and hard it was!
