The figures I have given are from memory, but if incorrect not far out. As it is so high in oil I'm wondering if anyone has tried it for weight gain, marketed as safe for Laminitics and I certainly don't want to trigger that, but considering it for an empty this year broodmare, big framed who went back in condition when sent away for weaning.

She has picked up enormously since she came back here, but we are doing the slowly slowly route with L Mix, grass nuts, oil, Seedibeet etc and ad lib haylage/rugged/stabled at nights.

I want her now to be on a rising plane of nutrition ready for early covering and just wondered if anyone had tried this feed for weight gain, with low starch as a bonus?

Haven't used it myself but I work in a feed store and got a few people who seem to love it for their lami's who need a bit extra.
Alfa oil is also very good and 'safe'

I don't want to risk her on Alfa because I'm fairly sure she'd be a tad sharp. And she's big... :D

I need to check the starch levels in the other feeds, I really don't need her stroppy on starch!

Ready Mash is 18% starch and Extra is 17%, so high enough that I may as well feed Cond Cubes really.

High oil feeds are an excellent way to add extra calories to the diet without "fizz". Oil is fattening, and so will help the horse achieve more condition.

Solution Mash has a 'calorie count' of 11 MJDE/kg whereas most conditioning feeds are at least 12MJDE/kg so will need to feed a bit more of the Solution Mash than you would conditioning feed to get the same amount of weight gain. If your horse has a good appetite then shouldn't be a problem.

I have found Calm and Condition to be a bit hit and miss in the 'Calm' description, some are some very def aren't.

She'd eat however much I put in front of her, and is already having a slug of actual oil in her feed. I think I will give it a try, many thanks. :)

hi, i feed solution mash to my tb who is a poor doer. its an excellent feed for condition without silly behaviour! anything with alfalfa or top line cubes send mine loopy and she wont eat speedi beet.. the mash smells fab, and the bucket is licked clean.. her coat has an amazing shine from it to.. i mix it with mollichaff calmer which is also low sugar and starch. both are safe for lammie prone, cushings etc.. the only thing about solution mash, is its not cheap. i pay 19 per bag.. and feed a stubbs scoop morning and night. but this is the best feed ive found for condition and coat shine, and trust me ive tried the lot lol!.. big thumbs up from me.
