My horse's physio has suggested I might consider a Solution saddle for my boy who is sensitive in his back and changing shape slightly as he gets older.
He's now early 20s, but not sure exactly.

Does anyone have any views on these saddles. at the price though!

I have one and love it (as does my horse) but they are a bit like Marmite!

Realistically you need to trial treeless saddles before you decide. Luckily they offer a trial scheme (used to be 50 pounds a week which is quite reasonable considering the investment). There are two versions, one with a gullet, one without, some riders find the one without a gullet very unbalancing. Having said that, both versions take a bit of getting used to, but I have used mine for about 3.5 years (to Medium BD and through some serious spooks) and never felt unsafe on it.

As for the horse, some love them, some are sore from them, so I would get your physio to keep a very close eye on the horse's back for the first year. R loves his Solutions and won't go in a treed saddle, but it gave F sore withers and he hated it.

You can get second hand ones on ebay and I have to say the quality of the leather and stitching is really shocking for the price of the new ones.

I've had mine for about 2 years, I really like it, it's comfortable and fits well. My horse has never complained about it, she lets me know (usually by dumping me) if something is wrong, bless her.

I've done Trec and Endurance rides with mine, so in the saddle for quite some time, with no problems.

I agree with Booboos, not brilliant quality, although Ko-cho-line helps.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to get my saddler to give his current saddle a good going over, and in the meantime will investigate both of these. For £2,000 plus I would expect top quality leather and workmanship, so will need to watch that.

For the time being we'll be going out for walks in hand - which I think he'll like anyway:)

for £2000 i would insist on top quality leather, best hand stitching and a couple of diamands as pommel studs! that price is seriously extreme! i am sure you can find a saddle that fits you and your horse that is very comfey for both of you for half the price!!!

I bought mine second hand via ebay, it was less than a third of the new price. It had been a stockists demonstration saddle and hadn't had the best care, a good soak with Ko-cho-line and the leather is now lovely.

Have a look on their web site, they often have old stock or used saddles at discounted prices.

Well worth the effort to find a cheaper one. IMO much more stable and comfortable than a HM saddle, I've owned 1 and ridden in a few HM saddles.
