Tell me about them please folks, I've accepted that cobbler might need something like this but as a former employee of a saddlery and having done intro to saddle fitting course I do remember being very suspicious of 'treeless' saddles however they seem like they would work well for my wide withered but not fat cob.

I currently have her in a silhouette saddle which fits ok but is not what I want her to stay in as would like a event/jump saddle and a dressage saddle in future.

So tell all, good bad and ugly folks :D

I'm a relatively recent convert, I started riding in one in july 18. I changed from treed because i was not happy with my horses topline development. I put him in a solution with help from one of their fitters via photos and vids (no fitter near me) and 6 months later my horses topline had literally blossomed!

I had to change the saddle then as the padding was now too thick and I was getting launched when jumping but I just changed to the same solution saddle but with lower profile panels.

That is a jump saddle and I will add a dressage or vsd next year.

My Draft mare had 4 different saddles in 5 years, as she changed shape when I put her on a diet after I bought her. She had some muscle wastage on the right-hand side under the saddle, she needed an extra shim on that side when we first started using the Solution saddle but after about 6 months we could remove that extra shim, as her muscles had developed properly again.

I very much preferred the Solution to any of the saddles that we had used previously and she seemed to like it too. She went more freely in the Solution, as she had massive shoulders and treed saddles always seemed to interfere with their movement.

The cob also wears the same saddle, now that the old girl is no longer with us, but shimmed differently.

Unfortunately my experience wasn't good, I know most people rave about them, but it made my arab very uncomfortable (it was professionally fitted) and he needed 6 weeks off after using it 3 times for less them 30 mins (mainly in walk).

I went back to a HM Flexee which really suited him (and me), he also went really well in a barefoot saddle (but I wasn't as keep on that).

I have two, a dressage saddle and an event saddle. I initially looked at them because I was struggling to find something to fit my mare's short back which would give me enough space and even more difficult accommodate the husband's ridiculously long legs.

I had a technical advisor out to fit my saddle, she was very thorough and knowledgeable and balanced the saddle correctly. There are two levels of fitter so some will be more specialist than others.

You can change the fit and balance with the shims and pads so that they suit you and the horse.

I find them very comfy and they are easier on the husband's bad back than a treed saddle. I have had a couple of instructors ride in them and neither had anything negative to say about them despite not having ridden in one before.

I do all activities in mine including hunting all day.

I would highly recommend trying one.

I am also a Solution Saddle convert. I found both of my mares who are warmbloods with big shoulders and movement loved them and go well in them. Another benefit was like Kat's husband they are great for bad backs. I also found that I don't get stiff either - I can have a break and then go for a ride and I am not stiff the next day! I use the older Freestyle as one of mine didn't like the stiffer pommel on the new Smart range.

I’ve been using them for 2/3 yrs now, initially for one horse who is tricky to fit, now I gave them all in them. I use them for hunting, jumping, everything. My horses seem very happy and comfortable in them, as am I.
