Hello!

Although I am hooked on this forum I have not asked advice before so here goes.....!

I have just taken delivery of my new VSD WOW saddle and I have noticed that the holes in the girth straps have been punched in unevenly. So, basically, when I attach the girth the buckle nearer my horses elbow is tighter than the buckle nearer my horses belly. I would estimate that the holes are about 0.5 - 1cm off centre.

Personally, I would have thought that this would lead to uneven pressure and discomfort when the girth is fully done up. The saddle fitter didnt think it would be an issue and neither did my yard manager but I just thought I'd ask people's advice on here.

Thanks everyone!

Well, you could use a humane girth & then it wouldn't be a problem as these distribute the pressure & can be fastened unevenly.

Maybe it's supposed to be like that? Are both sides the same?

Hi - thanks for your reply - the holes are the same on both sides.

I was considering a humane girth but the saddler brought a Jeffries girth along with him and it seemed like a good choice as it is wide and nicely padded with very soft leather.

Just dont want to have paid so much for a saddle if it is faulty and is going to cause discomfort. I would rather send it back to get it altered but I only want to do that if it was actually faulty.

It's part of the design.

You can change the positioning of the girth straps and put them onto a point strap, which will make one strap a little shorter. So on one fitting the holes are the same lenght, on the other they're slightly different. Mine's the same, although I can't remember which way round.

It is very annoying! I'm sure, for the money coughed up for one, they should be able to think of something clever.

If you know which girthing arrangement you need (forwards or standard) you could then get the webbing attatchments (inside the flaps) adjusted slightly by your saddler to make them even.

Thank you for that - that's very helpful! Glad I asked advice on here first before getting all hoity toity with the saddler!

He does need the standard girthing arrangement so I might ask my saddler to adjust it. Although, slightly worryingly, when asked at the fitting about this problem he just said it doesnt matter..... really hope this is not the start of a new saddle debacle rather than the end of a long standing one as I hoped it would be!
