I have been doing some extensive reading of the hunting forum and am looking for some advice. I have a 14year old Belgian Warmblood Sjer that is with me for life. I've had her 5 years, know her inside out and back to front. I am just about to bring her back into work after having a foal and would love to give her a day out hunting. Am I insane? She is very brave and forwards, jumps pretty high over ditches but when she settle pops away at them. I am a hunting rookie but think the mare would love it. Some people are saying go for it, others are saying I'm nuts. She has given me everything in the ring and I think she'd love the buzz of something different. I will be doing mounted steward on her at our Pt2Pt in 6weeks time so will get a fair idea that day of how buzzy she may get. She has been around hounds before as my trainer has the kennels at his farm and is not fazed by them. I suppose my biggest issue is when I look at some of the stuff they jump I balk at the idea but then the few times I've been out and my blood is up I jump anything. Sorry I know this is a very rambling post but I am desperate to hunt and can't afford a hunting horse right now and as I am not going to be asking her to jump at a high level again I kind of feel sod it it's time for her to have some fun! Any opinions?? I'm in Ireland just for the record.
