I'm a bit of a lurker on here but looking for some advice..
Chanelle has now been on 10 weeks box rest...
Started because of the snow, she got cast, after she got cast she started to look pottery lame, like lami but with no other symptoms. We treated as lami and she has been getting better, but we think she has damaged a muscle in her shoulder.
She is lame on the right fore, fine in a straight line but lame when on the lunge on the left rein, not so lame on the right rein. This is what is making me think its muscular rather that something in her leg as on the left rein she would be using her right leg for power but it is not apparent when the right leg is on the inside therefore showing that its not caused by concussion - please correct me if i'm wrong.
The vet perscribed bute at the start of her lameness but that has now finished and she has gone on to devils claw, there has been a marked improvement once on the devils claw. Since she has been in she has developed stiffness but the devils claw seems to be helping with this.
Here's the dilema....
She went out in the field on Thursday for 30 mins, during this time she did lots of impressive movements, lots of extended trot and big bucks
she didnt look lame or stiff atall, Friday she wasn't too stiff, no more than usual, she didnt get the chance to go out on Friday. She went out on Saturday for about 1 hour, came in quite stiff. Sunday she is extremely stiff and back to pottery like lami, was barely able to get out her stable. The grass want frosty and there isn't much of it atall. What would you think?
Do I get the vet again? Or try and get hold of a physio?
She isn't old either, only 15 but i think she has had quite a hard life, 5 years ago she pulled a tendon but has been fine since with only one spell of lameness. I am not too bothered about getting her ridden again i just want her to be sound enough to enjoy the retirement she deserves
She is fed on happy hoof, a small scoop of sugarbeet and a scoop of devils claw, up until now she has been on haylage in nets but ive given her hay for tonight
If she was yours what would you do?
