Sooo Star had her AI last friday at the vets and all went to plan, she came into season that week and they carried out the procedure on Friday. Due to have 14 day scan this Friday so fingers crossed...BUT...when i picked her up (i was on holiday the week she was there) I didnt actually get to speak to the vet who did the AI. Am going to ring her as ive been thinking of some questions, but basically:

1. She had AI using frozen seman which Ive paid the stud fee for - now people have been confusing me saying about having 3 lots etc - so when the vet did the AI, do they put more then 1 dose in? or do they keep the rest to use incase of another need?

Sorry if this sounds a bit thick but I am all new to this breeding stuff..will get hold of vet tomoz

Firstly it depends how many doses you get per stud fee, and how the stud send them out. Secondly, it will depend on which method of insemination your vets use - fixed time double insemination, or if they followed her season every few hours with ultrasound and AI'd very close to ovulation.

You'll have to work out, with those two bits of information what frozen (if any) you have left

Spoke to vets today - finally shed some light of what happened.

She said that while Star was there, she was scanned daily and washed out twice before we picked her up on the 19th.

Her right ovary was fertilating good so they inseminated that on the Friday by deep insemination?? Was scanned over weekend and before coming home and no fluid everdent and no other problems. So we have 1 dose left, but fingers crossed we dont need it...

If only perfect timing + motile semen + no fluid + deep insemination = 100% pregnancy rate... sadly it doesn't.

Hopefully she'll take, but there are no guarantees. Fingers crossed.
