Not for my horse but for a friends who is on holiday (so I am looking after her 4 whilst she is away). She has liver damage and hepatitis (not sure what has caused it but she hasn’t been right for a few weeks apparently according to owner) so she’s really ill, not eating or drinking so am having to syringe and inject in all of her hundreds of medicines 2X a day. The vet has been very honest and has seen cases not as bad as hers that have not made it. She has had a tube into her stomach to put liquid in and try to re hydrate her. I called the vets 10 minutes after the owner left for her holiday as she had a temperature of 40.2 and in the last 24 hours it has only dropped to 39.0 even with all the medication. There is a chance she can recover but I have to phone the vet with an update first thing in the morning and they will be back out first thing on Monday so that they can re assess and possibly refer to the RVC. So any vibes would be appreciated for her speedy recovery – thank you.

Best wishes to the mare, I hope she turns a corner for you. What an amazing friend you are to not only look after your friends 4 horses but also to look after this ill mare too.

Thank you appylass I wouldnt take on a sick horse, especially one with something contagous like she has normally but the owners didnt realise how ill she was (I took temp) and I only did after they had gone on holiday and I went to take her out! Of course once they are ill I would never just leave it though :)

Hello, unfortunatley she did get rushed to the RVC on monday and has been battling until this morning when all avenues had been explored and nothing had helped so she had to be PTS. Bye bye sweetheart, such a terrible shame for such a young horse. They still do not know what was wrong and will be carrying out a post mortem
