I have had Blue since i was 7, now 23. We used to have the BEST relationship, we did everything, and i spent all my time with him. But i got into to drinking boys etc, and i feel so guilty but he was with my sister for about four years, although she was not really comitted, so he was sort of ownerless for a while and i was about sometimes. I got him back 22 months ago. and since then have done everything to try and build a bond again, I can't really ride him (too tall) so I plod round the block once a week, I do walk him out, try to do some ground work, take him for grass and we have a few little shows planned this summer,.
I just don't feel I am getting anywhere with getting the bond back. I think he is worried to trust me in case I forget him again. My question is shall i keep at it with him??? I really do love him and i really want to, how can i bond with him more? At the moment I groom him lots, hold his bowl while he is eating sometimes and i am there twice a day everyday. Plus walking out / grass as i said above
Can anyone offer more advice? Do you think this will just take time?
Thank you for reading xxx

Sometimes you just outgrown your pony! This happened to me, I had a baby and got too heavy for my pony and she was still very much ready to rock and roll. I decided to loan her out and she came back to me between the few loan homes she was in. I only rode her the once because she wasn't as I remembered her or how I wanted to remember her she had slowed down and wasn't my mental mad pony. I got her back when it was decided to retire her unfortunately as you may have read my other post we only got three months together as had her PTS (colic) on Saturday and although it was great having her back it wasn't as it was when I was younger things just change but she knew I loved her to pieces and I am sure you pony knows that too!

Thank you fr your reply, i know what you mean. It has changed because we don't get out and about much, but i think I am going to change that, even if we just go as a companion to someone. I'm so desperate for it to work :( We are SLOWLY getting closer but it is hard :(

How about horse agility? It's not as easy as people think. Can be a real challenge for horse and handler.

I know plenty of adults who use this as a really good reason to 'be' with their beloved ponies.
