Any judges who can define a movement in a dressage test?

As i rode Nov 25 and the test reads
Show some meduim canter between A&H then
between H&C transition to working canter.
The judge put that i did the medium canter but that there was no transition between H&C.

I had shown the strides but was back at working canter before H. But if it is between A&H should you still be in medium canter at H?

So how are you supposed to ride this my instructer is slightly at a loss, and she competed upto Grand Prix.

Ideas Please!

You are quite right - its really odd isnt it.

IMO I think your judge is wrong and you shouldnt have been penalised for the lack of an obvious transition between H&C because you only had to show some medium canter strides.

I'm not a judge though but it just doesnt make sense any other way....

Over to the judges??

No she said there was a clear difference but that the transition wasnt between H&C.

I just dont see how it can be

No, if you are only showing some strides you could have been back in working before H depending on how many strides you showed.

Could that be it.......... sorry bit confused

Prob because it is very difficult to start medium at A. So therefore you would begin medium on the longside, i.e around K or before and be at medium to H. Then do your transition between H & C.

Dont worry so am i!!!

If anyone has a copy to hand have a look at Nov 25!

Its all the between marker and marker that gets confusing. So im not sure what at H your supposed to do!!!!

Think i am going to need to find a friendly judge!

I am pretty sure you should be in medium at H, then the transition between H & C. I've done this test and have never been marked down for the way it's ridden.

I'm no expert but I always take this to mean you do some medium strides between the markers and be back to working canter by H. My instructor advises me to ride deep around the corner to get her using her hind leg and then push for the medium down the long side but to already start asking her back to working canter after E so that she is back in working canter for the next corner - so I'd definitely be back in working canter by H. She says so long as you can see an obvious difference between the size of steps in the 2 canters thats all the judge is looking for at this level. I don't think you have to do medium between 2 set markers until elementary where you are expected to be more accurate.
My instructor used to be a listed judge and thats how I understand it from her but I will ask her to clarify it next time I see her if you like.

See i have asked a judge friend of mne and she says that i was in the right (i had my test filmed and showed her). And that she thinks i was harshly judged.

However as she pointed out it all comes down to opinion at the end of the day

Morning hun.

Last week I attended my first judge training seminar with Andrew Gardner. One of the things he pointed out is that judges are human first, judge second and capable of making errors.

I have had similar experiences to you in the past and felt wrongly judged, even got a big fat zero once for not performing a medium trot when the video showed that I did

My instructor always says to me that no matter what the judge thinks, if you are happy with how it went ... thats all that matters. Just put it down to experience and dont get put off by it. x

I know its no consolation but at least everyone in the class would have been judged by the same criteria so shouldn't have affected the placings.
