Jumped T today for the first time in a while... she was really good :D but she tends to tank off a bit into the fences... she's very good and will jump anything but she pretty much ignores any attempt i make to slow her down! Any advice? Thanks in advance :)

Try trotting into the jumps or even walking if the jumps are small enough and then trotting the last few strides. After the jumps slow her down as quickly as possible so that she learns she can't just tank off after the fence.

As EmmaJaneWilliams said, gridwork is useful for maintaining the rhythm and controlling the horse's speed into fences. Try a simple grid with three trotting poles, followed by 3 human strides to a jump. This way she will have to trot in and get to the jump correctly. You could then progress to adding 2 or 3 other jumps after this jump with one stride in between each one. Another simple grid would be a line of canter poles with 3 human strides between each one and then once you have got the hang of cantering over these in a nice controlled rhythm, try turning a couple of the poles into small jumps. The other poles will help you to maintain your rhythm between the fences.

Hope this helps! :)

I used to have this problem, we also did gridwork, and use of poles on the ground, my instructor also used to get us to circle away from the jump a few times if he wasn't listening/too strong, so that the horse wasn't sure whether it would be jumping or not, so was listening more to what I was telling him - it worked well! :)

I Had the same problem.. My instructor told me to try and stop my mare at the fense about 3meteres away. (BTW this dosent teach them 2 stop) And i now have a stronger bit in.. She used to tank off the other side of the arena at BSJA and we couldn't get any higher than 3ft.
Also Grid work all the way!
And Ride him past the fense untill he/her stops thinking yourt gonna jump it then trot into it and pop over if rushes do it over and over again. Sounds boring but will defo help !x
