i loved jumping as a kid. was pretty fearless and the higher the better. i then didnt jump for yrs, only hacked really. last summer i got brave and popped a small jump on my previous pony and i absolutely loved it and went again and again! it was only 2ft max and she was a v easy pony, i jst pointed her and over she went. leaving me to hold on tight!!

the pony i hve now, is an experienced jumper, hving been pony clubbed with his previous owners. i wud really love to give it a try on him once the ground has dried a bit. now, i found when i jumed last time, i was kinda throwing myself at it and loosing my balance. i didnt come off!! but felt totally novice. altho it had been some 15 yrs. jst some advise really pls as to how to get myself back into it. i wud like to hve some lessons in the summer to really get me going. not bothered about doing a course as there's no room in our paddock, jst wanna pop over one or two small jumps for fun and to give my boy some fun and interest.

have a lesson or two now, it's really hard to advise without seeing what you do. having a trainer there on the ground will mean that potential problems can be ironed out immediately.
if that's really not possible at the moment, i'd say practice your jumping position over poles on the ground at trot and canter until you can do them without altering your balance, and then progress to small fences without changing anything. having someone video you is mega-useful too.
have fun!

my son took some pics last yr, thats how i realised what i was doing. think i thought i was jumping huge fences rather than popping a pole!

i guess i cud hve a lesson at a school. cant take mine tho, i dont drive horse boxes! our riding paddock is lethal at the mo, wudnt even want to canter in there.
