I've started riding a horse for a friend (pics of him in PG :D ) and when I jump him (XC or SJ) we sometimes get the striding horribly wrong :o He's pretty clever at sorting himself out but we sometimes miss a stride or end up getting too close....
I never really have this problem on my mare...
This horse has evented up to Novice level and is a bit of a star but does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Tips/advice?
Thanks :)
Choccy for you all :D

this seems to happen to me quite alot on my new ish horse. i've had a really good instructor out and she tinks i'm trying to hard to see a stride on him so i am trying to dicate it rather than let him sort it out. with my old horse you could hold hold hld then ping, on my new horse he just likes to go at one nice rythem. what i've been doing is simply setting up two cross poles at oposite ends of a 20m circle and just cantering round and round them in a nice smooth rythm until it feels right. helps me loads

i sometimes get this problem as i am only just starting to see the stride, my mare is very clever and luckily will jump anything but i am always told to wait for the stride - i often release her three strides in if that makes sense(sj) xc our striding is a bit weird as she just goes full pelt :/ i sometimes put up 5 jumps in a row (grid-work) at set striding, this helps me :)
