some one has just walked into the yard and asked to buy a horse...

nothing strange about that you would think but when questioned this person reveals that they have never ridden or even touched a horse before, just fancy buying one for the kids! Surely this is a reason for needing some kind of licence to own a horse- unbelivable!
 
I would think its very strange unless you had a horse for sale and they had an appointment to view. Beware these sort of people could be checking the place out.
 
we are an equestrian centre with a shop so used to random people coming in and asking if we have horses for sale, but never has anyone like this asked before! I imagine they would keep it in the garden!!
 
Dodgy. At my old yard every now and again we would have do-as-you-likeys walking on and asking if anyone wanted to buy / sell a horse and keep you talking whilst another one had a look around. Just being cynical but beware.
 
Always take a vehicle registration or follow them to get it! That is very bizarre..now if it was me I could understand asking...in fact it wasnt me but I am thinking of doing that if my search continues!!

Suspicious take a name from them as well.

Assuming there is nothing dodgey behind the visit( you are a cynical lot ;) ) then what is so odd?
In the UK we DO simply go and buy the pet of our choice and learn as we go from books/breeders/pet forums ect.

Now I am not for one moment sugesting that is a good thing,but it does explain why someone from outside the horse world would walk into a large yard and ask how to buy a horse for the kids-I hope they were kindly given the correct advice and not made to feel stupid.
The horse world has a nasty habbit of assuming the entire globe revolves around it and then wonders why it has a reputation for being snobby and elitist.

Agree. It might have just been someone who thought it was that easy. Maybe she thought it was like buying a dog (after all, it basically boils down to, you keep it somewhere warm, you feed it what it needs and you exercise it), and maybe she just didn't realise it would be a bit more difficult.
