Some people really make me angry

I work in a horse rescue centre, and some people really get on my nerves! We had a phonecall early yesterday (Private number) asking us to take in a mare in foal. I took a few details about the horse, the owners could no longer afford to keep her, she had not been fed concentrates etc for last couple of months as they could not afford to feed her, she had been in a field with nothing but mud!

I told them we would proabably take her but we need to get a full endoscopic investigation done first as we do with all new horses that want to come in. The owners was ok with that not a problem, she then put the phone down and did not call back, so i got on with the things i was doing around the yard.

Yesterday afternoon a lorry arrives at the yard, a transporter with a horse in the back! i asked where she had been picked up from and they said they were not legally allowed to tell us. I asked them to hang on for two minutes while i went to get another member of staff who works with me, from the field. It took about 4 mins at the most by this time the horse was unloaded tied up and he was off!

We now have this mare that is in foal, due in June the owners have not contacted and we have no way of contacting them!!

Some people really really do not deserve to have animals.

Here is the little mare we named Dottie...

Oh lord, thank goodness she can get the help she deserves now. That photo has really upset me, reminds me of the state my boy was in when I took him on.

At least they dumped her with you and not on the side of the road. Small consolation in the face of overall pretty revolting behaviour.

Bloody disgraceful, poor little mare.

And how strange that the owners apperently paid a transporter to bring her to you, and yet clearly couldn't be bothered to pay for any feed for her..ever, from the looks of her!! They sound like total morons.

Ah well, she's better off where she is with you now, I hope she pulls through her pregnancy.

Poor horse, she looks terrible.

As terrible as it is that they left her atleast she will now be looked after and hopefully her and her foal will soon be happy and healthy.

It never ceases to amaze me how people can stand by and watch it happen.

We had one pony in called hercules last year and his owners said he would not eat!!

This is him on arrival..

I will never understand people who have animals and dont care for them. At least the poor horse will be cared for now, so i suppose they did the right thing in the end. Makes me so angry though. There is never any justification for abusing an animal

Ok I can understand people running out of money and yes they have done the right thing seeking out a recue centre but why do they let the animal get to this state before they admit to themselves they need help...or should we say the animal needs help.

The pony is not just thin, they must of known full well the pony was starving and to know that it was in foal....obvisouly they are too ashamed to show their faces.

Perhaps if they had to come and sign the pony over etc it may never of made it, perhaps would of starved to death in a field somewhere or they would of had someone to shoot it.

You do an amazing job, personally I couldn't be bothered even trying to find out who owned the mare, the damage is done now, what will they get? a slap on the wrist from the RSPCA, will that stop them from owning another pony again? I doubt it.

Anyway rant over, she looks such a poppet and wish you all the best in her recovery, what would would happen to these poor animals if it was not for centres like yourselves, you all do a great job.

He has really brought a tear to my eye. He looks so much like Tony Pony:

I don't agree with all these comments about how awful the owners are.

At least they placed her in your rescue, yes maybe they didn't go about it the right way but would you rather she stayed where she was without food in mud, heavily in foal? Or maybe the owners should of abandoned her instead or let her starve to death? Or maybe they could of had her PTS regardless of the foal or tried to sell her to the nearest dealer? Which option is worse?

The owners COULD of done a lot of other things but they didn't, they dropped her off at the best place and that might just indicate that they are not cruel heartless owners.

If she'd been without hard feed for a couple of months through winter may indicate that the owners could of been quite desparate to rehome her. You don't know the full circumstances behind it, none of us do so I think it's unfair to slag them off like this publicly.

Sorry, but I can't agree with you. Yes, they could have left her to die, they could have dumped her. Yes, they have done the right thing now(in the wrong way), but they could also have gone to a rescue place MUCH SOONER.

There really is NO excusing this.
