My OHs sister and her OH drive me batty! They own a pug and a staffy terrier. My OH has had to stop telling me things about them as I am ready to go and take the damn dogs off them.

* Didn't notice the pug was blind for the best part of a year, just thought her behaviour was odd

* Pug so fat she can't turn her head or groom herself!

* Pug suffers from urinary issues and silt/sediment build up in her bladder, surgery could fix it but nowt been done

*Staffy is also overweight (they say muscle

)

* Feed them all the crap of day, basically any left overs regardless of what it is! Apparently the staff gets tophats most days!

And that's just the beginning! They rarely get walked as well!

Arghhh

I know how you feel. I have a neighbour who has a new dog and she's SO obsessed with training and cesar milan she's forgetting to let the dog be a dog and tugs at his leader if he moves his head an inch or stops to sniff to the point where he's started hanging his head on walks and looks depressed. I long to say something but risk falling out with the only person I walk with so am keeping shtum. (for the time being) I would have to say something about the bladder thing tho, that's really painful

wow sounds like my cousins!
one bought a choc lab coz I got Beau (my collie), bitch, no intension of breeding but kept her entire, then freaked out when she started "bleeding all over hte house"

then the other one got a Shar Pei because they are "cute", never mind all the health problems, the fighting dog background....... anything like that!

the lab knocks my nan over whenever it see's her so its been banned from her house, and the sharpei is banned just to be safe!
where as beau is always welcome and well mannered with her!
and whenever they say about any of the problems they have so far (also mostly weight and not walked issues) I try to offer a suggestion (a) as a dog owner, and b) as a vet student)
but apparently I DONT KNOW ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Trouble is, I've seen this from the other side so to speak. I've worked with a few dog rescue centres and fostered / retrained / rehomed dogs too (we have 3 guys of our own - all rescues) so I can see what happens to alot of these dogs who become either "unmaneagable" or "too expensive to keep" ie vet bills due to ill health and not being looked after properly...

I'm in it for the dogs and I regularly tell ppl off who are blatantly ballsing up their poor four legged kids. The final option of getting rid once they can't handle it any more doesn't bear thinking about. I've seen it
