Maybe I am making a mountain out of a mole hill here- but I leant somebody a single bar for their horsebox until their horse got used to travelling in a traile. I have recently got a new horse and asked for it back (about six months later) because he is not used to a trailer and does not travel well with the partition. I have just tried to fit it in my trailer so I can go hunting tomorrow and they have filled in the holes for the pins and replaced it with bolts, obviously to fit their own box. However now it will not fit back in my trailer, meaning I cannot transport my horse and am having to knock hunting over the head, AND the dressage competition I had entered this weekend, and possibly lose out on doing the Christmas meets as well .Surely they should have had the decency to TELL US they were making some adjustments to it, or made their own?! It is completely wrecked now ! SO. ANGRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, not a mountain out of a molehill at all. I would also be asking them for the money to replace the one they ruined (they can have the old one back of course ;) )

I would go as far as to say you're making a mole hill out of a mountain. I would be furious. They need to buy you a new one asap and possibly help you get to one of your outings too. I would be horrified if i damaged something someone had lent me. It almost puts you off wanting to do nice things sometimes doesn't it. Have a mince pie on me.

yep, agree with others, tell them to keep that one and replace it with the correct one for your trailer! We lent our trailer out to a friend to move a bull and that came back with fittings missing and a broken fixing on the bar meaning we cannot use it. People can be so blurdy slefish with other people's belongings!

I would approach them in a calm manner and show them what for, in polite terms. It's unfair on you to do something like that, explain to them how dissapointed and appauled you were. Good Luck! :)

They would have known straight away it wouldn't fit their trailer and given it back and sorted themselves out with whatever they wanted not render yours useless to you, that's ridiculous, what did they think those holes were there for for gods sake, idiots

Ring them now and tell them you need a replacement as soon as possible because they have wrecked yours and you need it to transport your horse this Christmas.

Be very firm.

Let us know what happens!!

No not over reacting at all. I would be furious.

Contact them immediately and explain to them that they have damaged your bar and put it beyond use in your trailer. Ask them to refund what it cost you and give them the bar back as it is no use to you. Then suggest to them that as you have hunting and competitions to go to that were reliant upon you having that bar and suggest that they may like to give you a lift or pay for you to hire a box/trailer.

They have blatently taken a gamble that you would either forget about it or not need the bar back and let them keep it and that is incredibly rude! Be polite but make sure you don't lose out as a result of their thoughtlessness!
