So I have a 5 yr old neutered male lab in daycare - looked after him for 18 months. Today he can't leave my neutered female lab alone - licking and nipping at her ears, poking at her with his nose, head over the back, totally trying to dominate her, wont leave her side. Trying to hump her or hump the air, willy out etc! She is frankly loving the attention - tart. So why is he suddenly showing this behaviour!? She obviously smells good but why now? He has never done this before. I could understand it if he still had his bits but it's like he is on some massive testosterone power trip!

Have any of the dogs been in touch with a bitch in season? the smell lingers, also just because a dog is castrated does not stop him from beig interested.

No none of them have. I can understand him being interested if she smells good but if she would let him he would be full on humping her, surely he wouldn't be doing that as a neutered male? They both seem to be having a nice time anyway! Will see if it continues tomorrow!

It's not uncommon for neutered males to dislay this behaviour as suggested, thy will display it in scenarios.

When there are bitches in ear shot in season(does not have to be yours, could be a bitch living a few doors away from him or in the area you have him, and he is quite literllly just going through the moves with your girl:D

OR

Commonly when a bitch has a urine infection and is producing discharge for any reason.

Quite a few years ago I had a bitch in season who was fully mated with a castrated male (by accident I may add!) We had assumed because he was castrated he was safe to play with her. we were wrong, they mated tyed and everything.
