OMG. Poor poor Hovis!
Hubby was a lovely man at the weekend and took me to YHL on sunday to cheer me up (Its been a bit of a crap year!! Dads ill at the moment out in spain so I'm a bit naffed off).
As part of this lovely day out we both got a go on the horse simulators.
OMGG. I so wish I'd stayed ignorant of how i ride.
I ride SO badly!! I lean, I'm in front of the movement, my lower leg isn't in the right place and generally am pants! The only good news is i have good hands!! The lovely lady running the computer did look horrified when i told her i have my own horse!! I swear if Strider could have spoken he'd have suggested i take up a new ho bby - like knitting....
So I now know what poor Hovis puts up with! Eeek. I think he needs rescuing from me pronto!!
I would also like to apologise to anyone stood behind the horse simulator area when a chubby, ugly blonde was on strider. I am so sorry for the damage to your eyesight but i wasn't expecting to ride and thus had put on a pair of hipsters.... if the sight of my knickers has scarred you for life I apologise

On a related note Hovis is still poorly but seems a bit brighter the last couple of days. Hubby gave him his last injection last night so now we have to wait and see. His next blood tests are in 2 weeks time so we'll know more then.

Any offers to save him from his appauling untalented mother will undoubtably be appreciated by the Destroyer........!

No, Hovis is quite happy where he is

Riding simulators are just that...simulators!! They mimic the action of the horse but can't make adjustments for all the quirks that horses have. NO horse moves exactly like a simulator!!

Take it as a bit of fun, a bit like those bucking bronco things, where everyone who has ever ridden thinks they can hang on for ever....you never do!!!

Hovis would be lost without you!!

I wouldn't worry- I've always known I was a wonky rider and behind the movement, but hadn't quite appreciated how badly until having a go on Strider. They say ignorance is bliss- it certainly was! So it wasn't just you if it's any consolation.
As everyone else has said, Hovis seems more than happy with you, and simulators are just that.

I dread to think what it would say about my riding, i think they would ban me for life. Enjoy your horse i,m sure he loves you and your not that bad it must be nerve racking in front of all those spectators too.

Can we have him and then we can have a pair of sabino hairies.

I wouldn't worry - Hovis is fine and so are you.

I hope Mr H is well soon and is as good as old Cairo was for injections (lovely old chap used to stand loose in the field when OH stuck a huge anti-b injection into his bum every day for a week)

Farra is about to make her jumping debute if you ever fancy coming to Essex - it will be fun to see if she beats Stinky in the 2' class on the 13th at Harolds Park - after 5 long years, the Jumping Clydesdale is back - lets hope she is as great as Cairo was.

Now she and Hovis doing pairs - that would be a sight to see.

PS - I am playing a great new PC game and my character who is a destroyer is called Hovis in honour of the original.

Hovis and Farra doing pairs would be an event in its own right!! We could sell tickets to that! (After of course firmly propping up spectator stands etc to withstand the combined thudding of 8 enormous feet landing!!)

Hopefully he'll be back on his feet soon and back jumping again. Its awful to see him so flat and clingy. He's lost all his sparkle at the minute. He's an angel to inject (in fact to do anything horrible to) so thats not been a problem. I just want to see my baby boy back to his usual annoying self asap.

How is Farra to jump? Hovis would be amazing if he wasn't so determind he was always the one who is right and wasn't unstoppable between fences!!

Farra lives to jump - will go over them herself if loose in the school and when ridden constantly asks to go over. She however is rather clumsy but comes in nice and steady, hops the fence and goes away calmly and back to a trot. Stinky is the same, though a little faster after the fence but very manageable.

Cairo was the same, in carefully, massive leap and away steadily - novices could learn on him as all they had to do was point and hang on, but the huge jump was a bit unsettling for some. He always did 3' over anything, bless his soul.

I started Farra and Stinky over jumps on the lunge and insisted they come in carefully and never with heads up and fighting or excited and with these two (so far) the good grounding has stayed.

I will long term need them to come in faster and more bouncy, but for the height they are doing, slow and calm is great as they tend not to fall flat on their faces the other side.

Farra is doing doubles now and so far so good, she is also a bit more balanced, but we do go back to trot between fences but will work up to canter.

Luckily HPF has a new huge school so plenty of room to get a big young and rather legs everywhere horse round. Stinky certainly enjoyed it the other week.

One day we will get them together - I am sure plenty of folks would love to see them perform as they are so evenly matched - unless Hovis grows a lot more - same height, colour etc.

I'll hitch the trailer up now and come for him tonight.

After all any horse who can put up with that must be a saint and will be able to put up with all my terrible habits as well!
Only kidding, Hovis loves having you for a mum, it's obvious from his diaries.
