I don't think George has quite settled into his new home yet, I took him into the school to ride and he took complete fright at the green mounting step, cat leaped away from me, I let go and he then proceeded to buck around the school, mind you he then cantered some beautiful circles whilst he was loose

With some help from the YO we quietly caught him and I got on and he worked quite calmly for me in walk and trot (I didn't dare canter). We then turned him out and expected a real galloping display, but no, roll and then head down and eat

He has been quite stressy this a'noon, but from tomorrow he will be in the same routine as the other horses. I just feel awful as his eyes look really worried, and I don't know what to do to make him happy

Trish don't worry it can take a while for them to settle into a new home and its still very early days in his new home. His constant in all this is you so spend as much time as you can with him and trust me he will settle down into the routine, at the moment its all new and strange.
Good luck

When we moved house (my horses are kept at home) it took several months for my horses to really settle in. They had been at our other home 15 years and 14 years.

Don't worry. It is very early days and now he is being turned out and has the same routine as the other horses, I think you will find he quickly settles down. Some horses take a long time to settle, but as he is normally such a laid back character, I am sure he will soon be back to normal and enjoying his extra turnout.

Trish dont worry, give him a week or so and he wil be much more settled, he has a new place, new people, new horses and a new routine, its bound to affect him a bit. Seriously dont worry! x

He should soon settle, and if you are really concerned try some steady up for a few weeks - I used to do this with Miss Delia as she hated changing home and it just used to help her relax for the first month.

I am now very lucky, Cairo and Chancer can walk into a new place and are immediately settled - just give them some grub and they are moved in.

Oh Trish - please do not worry - it can take time for them to settle. The important thing is that he has you. If riding him in the new place is a big issue for you at the moment then lunge him before you get on for a couple of days - or just lunge him/do some ground work with him until you both settle. He will pick up on your nervousness - so think calm - breathe deep and relax.

Am sure he will be fine in a couple of days.

He will be fine. He just needs a bit of time to settle. My new girl took a good couple of weeks to really settle at our yard, and my boy took a few weeks at our last yard before he was back to normal.

Just carry on as normal and he will be fine. If you let treat him with kid gloves he will end up taking advantage (trust me, been there) and if you change his routine or treat him differently to normally then that might stress him out too. He will be fine! I've moved my horses lots of times and they're always fine in the end. The first time you move them it's always quite stressful but you (and them!) get used to it.
