. . . got the vet coming out to Kal later this week but I've been doing some research online about his lameness symptoms and many of the signs are pointing to navicular syndrome and/or suspensory problems. For some suspensory problems, the prognosis is not good . . . just depends whether it's hinds or fronts, what the damage is specifically . . . etc. Sigh. My imagination is running away with me . . . please calm me down. Kal has had his fair share of knocks since I bought him (tweaked a fetlock in the field being an idiot, had a nasty kick (suspected fracture) and tangled with some barbed wire) but he's never been this broken :(.

I just want my boy to be sound . . . or to receive a good prognosis . . .

No point really, just worrying . . .

BIG SLAP!

Now breath and calm down!

You don't know anything for sure - so until you know what you are dealing with there is no point in worrying.
To help you out a bit - my darling TB was lame for some time last year. Vet mentioned navicular syndrome/coffin joint arthritis etc Oh my word! I was beside myself!
Turns out he just had soft tissue bruising and he needed 6 weeks of mooching in the field for him to recover.

*massages PS's shoulders, passes glass of wine and a fag if needed*

I have seen your posts re. Kal and his current lameness, the problem is you can read too much info, until the vet has been try and relax, worrying yourself will not help:)
It could be anything, at this stage it does not sound too serious and you have arranged for him to be seen ASAP, the vet should be able to nerve block and if required do x-rays so you may have a diagnosis fairly soon, hopefully it will be a minor problem and he will quickly be back to himself.

Will keep fingers xx, be positive:D

"Shakes head after slap" . . . thanks AH, I needed that!

I'm probably just worrying needlessly b/c his conformation has always pointed to him suffering from navicular at some point (very upright, boxy feet, etc.) and it's always playing on my mind.

Appreciate the massage, necked the glass of wine but I don't smoke - but thanks ;).

And breath............:)

Stop looking on the interweb until the vet has been and diagnosed something. In the meantime drink, smoke and eat chocolate:D

I know . . . the interweb is the devil's own concoction . . . puts all sorts of scary, nasty thoughts in your head . . . but I'd rather know . . . y'know?

Have had a stiff glass of red, a choc/raspberry cornetto but I'll pass on the smoke . . . and many thanks for your support Slinks.

I know - as my MIL always says, I'm borrowing trouble, but we do worry about our horses. I just know that his conformation isn't great/helpful . . . and his (ahem) natural athleticism (translated that means his ability to be an idiot in the field) means he's prone to breaking.

Sigh.

He's gorgeous, and I love him, but wow he causes me worry. Will attempt to calm down until vet has been.

Thank you.

Looking up on the net can be a good thing and then there are other times when it can fill your head with the worst case that can happen, I know people that look up their own problems and from a head ache all of a sudden they have a brain tumour. So try easier said than done not to worry too much. The vet is coming you have done the right thing. When I looked up some of the things wrong with me on the internet really I should have been dead by now lol, so just wait and see what they have to say. Thinking of you both x

Keep calm and wait for the vet to diagnose the problem. Grab yourself a large glass of wine in the meantime.

We've all been there and totally understand but the odds are good that his problem will be fixable. The diagnosis my boy had was navicular, pedal osteitis and collateral ligament damage and he's now sound and working well.

We'll all keep everything crossed for you though. Xxx

Get down from that tree now! Friday night, my horse was, in my mind, dead - thanks to the bl***y internet. Was right as rain by 11pm - mild case of heatstroke (he is the most accident prone TB I have ever known - but yours sounds at least as bad!) Every time I think it's something terminal but he always manages to come through so keep the faith (not the religious kind, just the horsey kind) Hope you get really good news!

Listen up you!

Wait till vet (who has trained for some amount of time to be able to diagnose!) comes out & gives opinion eh?

Big glass of vino (you are going to virtually get drunk tonight! :D )

Leave google alone! :p

xx

Yes Fuzzy Furry Ma'am . . . will attempt to do as I am told ;).

Thank you!

LOL . . . my husband is one of those people - according to him he's had a brain tumour for the last 7 years ;).

Self-diagnosis is never a good thing - which is why I'm looking forward the vet coming out. In the meantime, I will try and banish scary things like torn suspensory ligaments from my mind . . .

BCOne - this is good to hear . . . how old was your boy at time of diagnosis?

Glad your boy is alright . . . these accident-prone TB-y types like to keep us on our toes . . . I swear Kali could hurt himself in a padded room!

Thank you.

My old Arab was diagnosed with navicular aged 12. She came sound with remedial shoeing and went on pretty much as usual fir years. It got the better of her aged 27 and was PTS but led a happy and useful life! I was just careful what I did with her when the ground was hard. Even if the worst happens be assured it can be managed. Hope you get good news.

I learned not to look medical info up on the net..... It took a couple of goes, but I learned....

1. Star had a Squamous Cell carcinoma on the surface of her eye - scared myself silly. Treatment was impressive and sorted the problem.

2. Son diagnosed with Chronic Leukaemia. The net had him dead and buried in 2 years. He recieved the news that he's had an 'optimum Response' to his treatment last week - as near as damn it to a cure.

Star damaged a suspensory ligament in January. The net said she'd never be fit for anything ever again - She's been walked in hand for the last 2 months and is feeling pretty good about life in general. Her feet are wearing normally now, she's not stumbling anymore and is not lame when trotted up. Next ultrasound scan next week
(a month late because of various 'stuff)', and hoping to start ridden work then.

Follow the vets advice, and Don't Scare Youself Silly! :D

Thank you for this Surreydeb . . . how wonderful that your mare went on for another 15 years after diagnosis. It sounds like you managed her condition really well - she was lucky to have such a kind and caring owner.

Any pictures?
