Im hacking to the local riding club jumping evening tonight with 2 friends, just to do schooling rounds..as big or little as you want and Im NERVOUS! I dont even have to do any I can just watch my friend who is doing a class, but Im nervous...I mean for goodness sake when I was younger Id happily leap over anything and now Im nervous even though I can literally have the poles on the floor if I want

I have so much more fear now Im an adult!

oh tell me about it, I'm just the same, I really want to do it but sometimes my nerves get the better of me! Go, enjoy the hack and do whatever you feel comfortable with and don't forget the rescue remedy!

I may well do that actually, I have some for emergencies!
I just dont know whats wrong with me, I just feel so rubbish sometimes compared to others that I dont want to make a fool of myself!

I'm a wimp too now I'm an adult!! Find a height your (nearly) comfortable at and take it slowly. Put a neckstrap (or martingale if you don't want to show your nerves, it'll steady the shaking of your hands before it reaches the bit anyway) on and you'll have more courage as you can grab it!!!!

Make yourself do this and the buzz you'll get after will be AMAZING!!!! Failing that let someone else jump your baby and be GUTTED that you didn't do it yourself!!!

GOOD LUCK and remember this is what you do for FUN!!! Go on, recapture your youth!! And do let us know how you get on, Me. Beau, Ice, Lottie and Hope all have fingers/hooves crossed!!

Thank you cai - yes I bet I will love it when I get there its just the thought of people watching me being crap! Madam has a martingale on anyway so Il grab that for reassurance if I get nervous. Il only feel even worse if I let someone else do it wont I

Im gona recapture my youth and have the fun that I always wanted to!!

I feel exactly the same way about jumping. Used to do junior BSJA as a girl and you could have sat me on anything and pointed me at anything and I'd've given it a go.

Now I have a 17hander who could walk over the fences I aim him at totally crapping my pants. My very kind instructor has pointed out to me that once I get him going in a nice canter rhythm he does not stop - which is my fear - so pulling him back into trot before each fence (which I do cause I know that if he stops I can normally stay on where as in canter I'm out the front door) isn't actually helping. It's a chicken and egg - I'm scared of approaching fence in canter - but if I keep him in trot he has time to think about it and cause he doesn't really need to jump it cause I put them too small he can't seem to arrange his legs in trot. If that makes any sense at all.

Anyway it's supposed to be fun so don't worry about what everyone else is thinking - I'd be very surprised if any rider hasn't had a bit of apprehension at one point.

blondegirl - its at Shaugh Prior.
Yeah I think Il just pretend im in the field at home and no one can see me. Iv been told that some people are rubbisher (is that a word) than me so maybe it wont be as scary as I imagine

I always do that, imagine something to be so scary then when I do it its like 'oh that wasnt so bad'

Oh God no!
I have something terrible to tell you!

You are normal. As you get older your hormones kick up a fuss and make you nervous I would go with it and have some now whats that thing called ........ I know 'FUN'!!

Feel the fear and do it anyway!

PS why dont I ever take my own advice?
