Jackie always does Shandy in the early hours due to her work starting early. Today she was there around 4 am. Before she did Shandy she turned her car around outside the girls field and a man was trying to hold Willow round the neck, she jumped out the car and yelled as she yelled another 3 come from by the tack room and stood as if ready to have a confrontatioon. Thankfully Jackie is sensible and she got in the car Called the police and sat their for half an hour honking her horn. They ran off to the bridle path at the bottom of the farm and disappeared.

The police came and informed Jackie there are gypsies nearby and we need to be vigilante!!!!

I am still reeling, Jackie rang me and told me everything was ok but I felt so ill I was up the yard straigh away and moved all the ponies back to mine along with Sparkey. I couldn't rest until they were back home. Joanne is on holiday so Sparkey will stay with me till she comes home and hopefully by then the gypsies will have been moved on.

We have emptied the tackrooms and took all the headcollars home tomake it harder, the police think they were trying to break in and find headcollars to take the ponies in and the man who had Willlow was keeping hold of him.

So if you are in the shustoke/Packington/Coleshill/Warwickshire area please take care and look out for anything dodgy. We were lucky because there are people up and down the farm all night and day, it could have been a far worse post this evening.

ps sorry about the horrendous spelling I am absolutely shattered after spending all day at yard...

Thankfully I have moved them back to my own yard whci has more security in the fact that the police and motorway people park in the driveway on and off all night and we have cameras and alarms.

How terrifying for you and your friend! Sounds like it was lucky she was there when she was so that you could take quick action.

She also sounds like a very brave lady, I don't know what I would have done!

Something I forgot to mention earlier is Willow is probably the hardest to catch out of my lot and quite scared of men so they were very brave to try grabbing him. Also something else that worries me is they had a tyre in their hands (one of the ones Joe uses for her water buckets to stand in), Jackie said they dropped it and ran off after a few minutes when they realised she wasn't moving. God knows what the tyre was going to be used for.

Glad this has a good outcome. Good thinking on the part of Jackie - honking the car horn. I'll remember that one.

Are your horses freezemarked?

I'm always a bit nervous at this time of year when Appleby Horse Fair is on........ I used to live on the A66 which is the direct route over the Pennines to the Lake District - and also to Appleby. We used to stable the horses at night, and check more often during the day at this time of year. A lot of stuff would go missing as well.
