Hello all,

I have bitten the bullet and put my name forward a x-country clinic there next saturday, Denny and me are comfy showjumping up to about 80cm but Denny has never gone x-country, I have done a few practices with my previous horse Ted years ago but nothing recently.

So question -
1) Are there plenty of smaller jumps and options for a novice horse and rider.
2) Do you have any helpful tips on how to ride the fences, Denny is a good honest jumper but can lack confidence at times and has a habit of taking of for the jump too early. I am not the most confident jumper (I am a chicken... )

Any answers will be greatfully appriciated :O)

Thank you for the feedback, I was a little worried as most of the jumps on their website looked HUGE, I am really looking forward to going and i thought that with it being a clinic if we have any problems I would have a lead horse if I need one. Also I am sure that I will be a bit braver than usual as there will be people watching.

I have just been to Bobbis Horse Camp last weekend on their camp for 3 days. Ive never ridden on an XC course before and so was ever so slightly nervous. There are plenty of small jumps, we had a Trainer and were in small groups, ours was 4. It was fabulous, we jumped things I never thought I would and yes the water complex is really good. We cantered through it and got soaked! Go ahead and have fun

This is just what i needed to hear, thanky you all for taking the time out to reply. I will make sure I wear my swimming ring in the water.
I will try to get some pics and post at the weekend :O)

oohhh, i was there too ! With my 4 YO, who had never been ridden in an open field let alone a xc country course. We had lots of fun, and he really grew in confidence. Plenty of small logs / ditch, and the water was fantastic.

Enjoy OP, if your worried, just make sure you have a good lead horse.

I went to Bobbi's camp in August at Somerford, it was brill! I've only ever done the farm ride at Somerford, never done the XC (though done a fair bit of XC over the years). There are plenty of fences to choose from, though nothing tiny that I can particularly remember.

There are plenty of smaller fences dotted about and you should be able to get a few lines together. Good thing is there's often several of the same fence but in different heights next to eachother so you can just pop up the higher level easily.

Love Somerford, very jealous! Have a fab time!
