unfortunately, my horse and i have had first hand experience of somersaulting....we were having a jumping lesson, which involved a grid of 3 bounce strides. my mare took two fences on at once, landing on the back bar with her front legs, and turning right over in the process. unbelievably, she stood up unscathed; not even her saddle was damaged, and she didnt have a single scratch to show for it. i broke my right hand in two places, but, seeing as we were both in reasonable shape, my mum and instructor persuaded us to jump a cross pole, so as not to lose our nerve. although we did jump it fine, i have now given up jumping completely; we've just never been the same since!

Seen someone miss judge the take off, came down on the jump, horse flipped over it and landed on its face/head/neck and rolled forwards and sideways - ending up on its side, rider was thrown clear luckily, doubt horse saw a vet or chiropracter etc to check its back, seemed fine at time, just lost all its confidence.

I did this at a very young age, horse hit the last part of a treble at a bad angle and the pole got caught between front and back legs, he went bum over head, i came off underneath and he landed straight on top of me.

I was broken, he got up and trotted off....... not a scratch on him...

somersaulted on Dan about 6 or 7 years ago now. He just didn't pick up in a discovery class (or something of similar size) over an upright which had a very solid and heavy wall filler. He somersaulted over the fence sending me flying infront of him, apparently I rolled out of the way as he proceeded to land where I originally fell.

End result was we were both a bit dazed and he had grass in his forelock but we were both otherwise unscathed. I went on to jump another horse that day although poor Daniel got a bit of time off to make sure he hadn't dented his head too much

I have known a horse that had somersaulted during team chasing, she was fine afterwards but completely lost all her confidence in jumping after that.

I had this happen to me last month, Ty didn't pick up going over x-country jump he flipped over and came down on me.
I didnt know what was going on at first managed to push him off me , he was fine not a mark on him or his saddle, my body protector bust open at the shoulder and I had bruised ribs for a while, also saw double for a bit. I was really worried about Ty but as I said he was fine but still had him checked out.
