If it's inside the eye, it could be an iris cyst which you have only just spotted because of the bright light/snow today. My mare has one in each eye. They are not harmful unless they get massive and can then obstruct vision, but can then be zapped with a laser. They have changed little in my mare and do not effect her at all. I am only guessing though so get the vet to be safe. Can you post a photo?

It doesn't really need that many exclamation marks.

Bright light, closed pupil, corpora nigra look larger and more noticable. I'm not discounting getting the vet, but i woud put money on it that this is what it is.

CLS - I'm not sure if you mean a large external cyst-like thing, ie on the outside of the eye or something on the inside. Either way, if it's immediately clear that it wasn't there before, you need to act fast, Christmas or not. Eyes are very very precious. They can also be very very difficult to treat if something nasty takes hold (the cornea itself has no blood supply). Is the eye watering profusely? Is she screwing her eye up? Is she trying to avoid bright light? Has she had conjunctivitis recently or any infection that has led to sticky goo forming in her eyes all the time? Is the area around the eye swollen? If you answer yes to any of those questions or if the horse is clearly unhappy with it, or it seems to be getting worse, or anyway just for reassurance, get the vet out SUNDAY as an emergency.

thanks everyone i rang the vet and he said he would come down to have a look but if she isnt in pain then it shouldnt be serious. and she looks perfectly well to me but best get it checked! x
