Odd one here.. I can't quite put my finger on it.

The last couple of days GSD got his paw stuck on one occasion- no injury, he just was trying to get it out at a funny angle. And he panics and howls/cries the place down for that 5 seconds. On another occasion he let out the most awful howl/cry.. I assumed he had been hit on the nose etc with the tennis ball that I had just thrown but not certain. - no injury.
Last night he ran up the back garden howling and crying, no obvious injury.. Wild guess is he poked a hedgehog with his nose?

Today he is abit off, won't go down to that part of the garden, is wanting to lie in his bed or cuddle into me. Is hanging his head listening at the doors..

His nose is wet, he isn't off his food, he is actively looking to go into the car? (also odd) I've checked him all over for lumps, bumps or bits that are sore, felt his tummy, checked on his mouth, he is wagging his tail when I chat to him.

I'm stumped. Is he just totally traumatised by last nights event?

Would be a vet check for me in case he has swallowed a foreign body.
Something that hadn't crossed my mind at all and is very unlikely considering how fussy he is, and isn't really displaying any "symptoms" I would class with that. But I will keep it in mind thanks!

I would monitor until tomorrow and if still 'offf' consider a vet visit. But I have been known to take an animal to the vet to be told that it seems to be fine and then a week or so later been proved right, the animal was brewing something that was sub-clinical at the time of the vet visit.

My Cocker was a bit whiney and unsettled this morning after his walk. I went all over him and have removed a Blackthorn from deep in the fur just on the inside of his hindleg.....worth a really thorough groom and feel maybe??

I went to our vet just before christmas with fewer symptoms than your dog. Mine was 'a bit sad'. The vet checked him over but couldn't find anything, he said frequently people will notice something up as they know their dogs well, and find out what it was later. He said sometimes it turns out to be a tummy bug... hopefully not for you!

Mine turned out to be an abscess which came out through his paw.

I'd take him in, let the vet gave a look. It put my mind at rest for a little while and I felt reassured when the abscess was found later as we really do know our dogs best and aren't going mad.

Sounds like an injury to the leg. On lead exercise only & not chasing balls etc!

Well we are back to normal now thankfully, I think he is just over sensitive and whatever went on last night has traumatised him abit...what a scarey cat guard dog! We went down to the offending area this afternoon and did lots of easy positive training and all has been fine since.. I do still wonder what in earth happened!

All it took was the back door slamming in the wind for Zak to be scared of the wind. He is extremely sensitive and remembers incidents forever.
