Hello
Right, we have a 2 acre field for our two ponies, we have two sheep on there which belong to a couple who totaly spoil them. They have a sheep hut to go in which has a 2mtr fence round that they can go under to get to the shelter but the horses cant get to them and eat their hay. Anyway, today when i went down the horses had got through the fence as the sheep people had put a sack of sheep food in there. I propped it up quickly so it wasnt dangerous as i had college. I got home tonight and the sheep people had rung my mum and told them that the sheep had been totaly neglected and they were so cross with the mud situation. I hadnt poo picked for 2days as my wheelbarrow broke but they are on a 2acre field so it wasnt like thay were standing in it. They said there was no water but in reality i couldent carry a heavy tub of water across the field to the sheeps part at 7 this morning but there were 4 tubs of water for the horses and sheep to share. The sheep people insist the sheeep have there own water buckets not that i think it makes a difference. So anyway im really cross they said i didnt look after the sheep, i just dont think sheep need spoiling with organic apples n stuff and own water buckets and practiclay a maid service!! Sorry its depressing to read i know!

And what's wrong with them getting their arses up the field?!!!!! Losers! I wouldn't worry, I'm sure it'll blow over soon enough. Just relish in the fact that they have sheep and you have horses. Enough said!!

Well if its your land then i would say bye bye to the sheep and let the owners find somewhere else to indulge their wooly friends.I cant see why the sheeps owners can not give them water.( i thought thats the idea of having animals is to care and look after them yourself not expect others to do so).

I agree - something like 'it's my land, so I'll choose what to do on it - now sling your hook!' or words to that effect.

Hello, welcome to HHO.

I agree with the others, their sheep, theirs to care for, and if it is YOUR land, they either look after their sheep properly or move out.

Their sheep, there problem!!!Tell em to bog off elsewhere, they only sheep for gods sake!!!

To be honest I wouldn't lose sheep, sorry sleep over it. Not taking the ps btw just couldn't resist saying that sorry.
I agree with what others have said really.
If they are the other people's sheep and they want this that and the other for them why the hell are they not doing that themselves?
I would also be slightly concerned about the sheep feed situation though. I don't know nutritionally what sheep feed contains and if any of it can effect horses in any way if eaten in large quantities? May be worth checking out unless anyone on here keeps sheep and horses together and can answer that question?
I only raised it because the owners had put a bag out as you said and I would assume it was due to its visibility or smell that caused the horses to bulldoze the fence.
Unless you are in receipt of monies ( ie share a field) or discount for your horses ( as in it is their field) for helping out with the sheep or they help out with your horses, then I would seriously consider having a polite discussion with them and point out that their sheep is not your responsibility but their own!
Good luck

Sheep fed will be fine for the horses if they ate it - some of the horses on our yard get Lamb feed - well the ones that need filling out.
But are they by any chance townies that havent got a clue!! Just explain that sheep do not need that level of care and if they want to pamper them why do they not take them home and keep them inside and dry and warm, and then say you always have a spare oven - sorry shed for them

I was always under the impression that sheep feed was not good for horses, something to do with the balance of copper or something which isnt good for horses, im sure a one off wouldnt hurt though.
