An old horse on our yard has lice. He had a few in the Summer (shortly after he arrived) and the owner treated him, all the horses were all shampood and treated with OTC stuff, although the rest of them had no signs of having lice.

The old horse is infested again, and the vet is coming today. He will be asked to leave enough treatments for all the horses, assuming he thinks we need to do this. Again there is no sign of anything on any of the other horses.

My view is that the owner of the old horse will have the pay for everyone's treatment. I don't think it will go down too well. What would your view be?

I wouldn't expect to pay for the visit but I'd gladly pay for the treatment if my horse needed it.

If you make the lice owners horse pay you then get into the realms of "your horse kicked my horse, you pay the bill". It all gets very messy and ill feeling creeps in.

I think your being pretty unfair to make her pay? She treated her horse in summer so its not as if she hasn't been trying. Its not amazingly expensive and the vet can't MAKE you get the treatment. So if your horse doesn't have lice, and you don't want to pay for the treatment then I would just leave it.
