My horse had an old scab on the inside of his front fetlock, he has somehow knocked the scab off and its left what I can only describe as a shallow hole about the size of a 1p which keeps bleeding. He brushes when he walks but brushing boots are rubbing and making it worse, whats the best way to help this heal as everytime he walks he knocks it.. hes not lame.

Thanks

I would not mind betting that if you were to walk behind your horse you will see a 'toe out' presentation.
This will often be backed up but the fact that the hoof will be wider on the outside than on the inside.
When I was trained as a farrier this was the the accepted practice for a horse that brushed.
We now know different.
I am not for one moment saying it is due to the way it is shod but it could be a factor if the above proves to be true.
2 things will change the action, 1) making sure the feet are balanced to the best of the shoes ability
2) when you are able try going barefoot even for a short time, if the horse stops brushing.... guess what its the shoes!!

After making sure there is nothing wrong with his balance etc try bandaging the area in vet wrap with a bit of clean cotton wool of a pad underneath while he is ridden or turned out and leave it open while he is in the stable to let the air get to it. Hope that helps
