hi, just want to know if anyone had similar experience.. my horse had a sore back, after had been ridden in draw reins. I had a massage lady to look at him, and she told me to take them completely of, and let him find his own balance. he is still very sore in his back,4 days after the massage..is that normal. she did say that she need to see him for another 2 times. in the meantime I dont want to do to much with him.. I did had his saddle and teeth checked as well.

I think you'll find that it's probably not the massage that has made his back sore but the use of the draw reins! It is a piece of equipment that can cause untold damage in the wrong hands and are often used incorrectly.

I would take your back lady's advice and leave them well alone. What prompted you to feel the need to use them? No artificial aid should be used in the place of correct schooling. Maybe you need some lessons with your horse to help you get on the right track. Hope he's better soon.

unfortunatly I am in a place where draw reins are used a lots..they are so fixed on the head position only.. I have learned the hard way now. but what kind of exercises would be good for him to refind his natural balance ? when i lunge him I do it now without side reins as well..he is 6 years and got big paces. would it be long and low work for a while.. he is still sore, and put his head up in up transitions..I guess it will take him a while, working him with a lots of patience , so he can forget the period where he was tuck in.
