For my first thread it’s only fitting to talk about my er... lady bits... after riding my bits sore and dare I say swollen 😰 I have been wearing Bridget Jones pants when riding and have put Vaseline on said area before riding... yet to not much avail... my trainer said my seat position is good but 🤷🏻‍♀️ Help a girl out for my sake and my bits...🙂

Try to get knickers which are seamless in the crotch area and have a softer edge.
Chamois cream for ladies is definitely a good purchase, amazon stock some.
Horse riding is fine for me but I find some motorbikes make me extremely sore, so wear cycling shorts underneath my leathers.

Saddle/pommel/balance of saddle? I cannot ride in a wintec without an issue.

Also scrap the vaseline and upgrade to cycling chamois cream. there are few for ladies (pH is different)

I’m not really sure, it’s just a riding school horse as still at uni so can’t afford my own currently! Brilliant thank you! amazon delivery pending!

Ah a make do then.

Sometimes I will find using my HM seatbone saver useful because it makes the saddle more shallow, particularly pommel end because there is a cut out, if that's causing an issue.

Yeah got some from Asda the other month thinking they will be better but need some non-vpl as they seem softer?

I had the same problem. So sore it hurt to pee and Dr. checked for UTI. But I found 'Briefs for lady riders online and bought 2 pairs of Equestrian Derriere which are tailored to cushion little soft areas. They're great and I haven't looked back. They aren't cheap but they worked for me. Hope this is helpful.;)

Oh some saddles are awful! I did a weekend trekking with a friend and after day 1 she asked if I'd swap horses with her. The guy who ran the place thought she didn't like her horse but it was bruises in places she didn't want bruises! I'm a couple of stone lighter so we thought the saddle might be better for me. It wasn't 😢

I've ridden a few different horses in my lessons now and I've concluded for me it's down to the saddle size - which obviously we're not really at liberty to change those. I think I'll try to get some of those creams...

Try trimming your lady hair too..short makes a difference! Your seat/hips probably aren’t developed or ‘open’ enough yet.when they are, you’ll not be sore again..

Ouch, in the next year or so I’ll be looking to buy as I’m at uni so can’t currently own my own. The thing that confuses me is what am I looking for in a saddle so my lady bits are all ok!? Surely it can’t be down to trial and error that could be thousands down the drain?

Goodness this thread is making me sore even thinking about it.
Could you use a good foam/gel seatsaver on the saddle?

😂I know it’s always a bit of a sore subject especially after work without stirrups! I would 100% after reading the forum except none of the horses are mine which is a pain so it’s a case of making do until I have my own after uni. I don’t know if it’s the style of saddle or pommel or what? I asked my trainer and she says my position is good in the saddle so was a bit worried I was on my own with this issue!

This may sound like a stupid question but do you need to wear pants underneath as are they like shorts or are they actual underwear?

Can’t say about what saddles will suit you but the times I’ve ridden in a proper Dressage saddle (on a mechanical horse) I’ve come home bleeding down below 😱. Was concentrating so hard I never felt a thing at the time. Never happens with other saddles. I’m going to invest in some proper Dressage paddy pants!

Oh God, that's the worst thing I can do so I guess it varies!
My seat and hips are definitely developed too unfortunately, just everyone's conformation differs, which is why some seem to think it bizarre anyone ever has a problem.

No silly, you post here again and we all tell you what we use. :D Also I know pretty quick if it is going to be an issue (within 15 mins or so) and generally it has mostly been an issue with saddles that aren't necessarily a perfect fit on the horse either (RS/temporary saddles etc). I ride on plenty of saddles that cause me no grief at all. :)

Anybody remember my post where I rode in a thong?... no sympathy at all from most of you lot:D

OP,Iv'e had this problem too and it did seem to depend on the saddle in my case. I took to wearing a thick sanitary pad which seemed to do the trick.

Honestly worst thing ever riding in a thong NEVER again. Omg the pain!!Resulted in tears sat on the toilet... the joys of riding ay 😂

Hehe, no you're definitely not alone. There have been a few saddles I've ridden in in the past that leave me in agony. I'm no help for make do preventatives though as I was at liberty to change the saddle in all but two of the problem saddles and in both of those it was a jump saddle so I just rode around in slightly light seat and padded my knickers with sanitary towels

Hope you find something that helps

I’ve found the Equetech riding briefs helpful to cushion against bruising and chafing - they come in three different levels and areas of padding. They aren’t especially seam-free though, the Berlei ones look like they might be better for that but are more expensive.

Having the exact same problem this evening! And not 20 minutes ago I was thinking myself "hmmm I wonder if this would be a subject to broach on the H&H forum..." Haha.

Found that my underwear had been digging in, in all the wrong places for the duration of my lesson today so maybe that's what's been going on with you, too?

I’m looking to get a horse within the next year or two, how does the saddle fitting work? Like to fit you?

A good fitter should take note of both you and horse, but finding a good fitter and then them finding you a saddle can be a minefield. My most recent saddle was a made to measure for both me and horse and it's heaven. But all my other comfy saddles have really just been a case of trial and luck.
