Hi has anyone had the same problem My Tb suffers with sore feet when the ground is hard I make sure I dont do alot of hard work or jumping. My farrier says this is common with alot of TB. About 6 week ago i called the vet out as i wanted his advice. He said she was about 1/10 lame and to rest her for 2 weeks and he would come back and xray if she didnt improve. Well after 2 weeks she was ok. Now a month later she is sore again, farrier came out said it was probably due to hard ground again. I dont know whether to call vet back out and get him to xray as shes only 1/10 lame. Advice please

Have you considered pads to protect her soles? I would be tempted to rest her for another couple of weeks and if she is then sound, speak to your farrier about pads.(Hopefully save you a vets bill too!)

I always have this problem with my TB. He lives in silicone gel pads. These are put in my the farrier and protect his sole from concussion. Without these he is lame most of the time however he also has collateral ligament damage which contributes to his problems. It is worth talking with your farrier about pads. X-rays showed my boy had low lying pedal bones and hence any concussion was having a major effect. As a side note if the on/off lameness continues I'd push for x-rays and a proper investigation. Sometimes vets can be quick to attribute lameness to bruising and concussion when there are a number of other problems that cause similar symptoms.

My horses x-rays were clear except for the low lying pedal bones so try not to panic. I'd definitely try pads. They are expensive but you may find you only need them for a few shoeings a year. It's very common in TBs. Good luck.
