My large breed rescue dog (some kind of over sized cross) is having real trouble with his feet.

With all the hot dry weather, his pads are just deteriorating and have horrible deep cracks. Not bloody or oozy at all just look like they are crumbling! Any good home remedies for keeping them supple?

He has pretty weird feet anyway as they are a bit mis-shapen (been checked by a vet but nothing that needs treating). They look like they have taken a battering before he came to us (he used to live outside). He doesn't like us touching them much (but will let us) so I think they may be a little uncomfortable anyway and I want to make sure I do everything I can to keep him happy. Any ideas?

There is a product called "Frog Oil" for horses which states on the container that it can be used to harden dogs pads.... might be worth a look. It is a strong anti fungal too. I got mine from Equine Pharmacy Direct.
