hi,
my mare had a tangle with a gate about 5 days ago, skinning her near hind quite badly but other than that she seemed unharmed. we coldhosed it put antiseptic cream on the cuts but vetinrary gamgee then normal gangee and bandaged it, (also bandages other hind leg)
i have done this everyday twice a day (so in the morning i take the bandages off, gentle lunge her, cold hose and put antiseptic cream on. she stays in until lunch time and goes out in the afternoon. when she comes in i coldhose the leg and put the cream and bandage for the night) and the wounds have healed nicely however the swelling in the leg doesn't seem to be going down and she is becoming more agitated on the lunge (swishing tails, which she never does) and looks very very very slightly lame (i would say if i didn't know her so well it would probably be unnoticable)
any ideas what could be causing it? could it just be they legs are healing making her more sore?
*disclaimer* before anyone says it if she doesn't improve soon or goes downhill i will obviously be calling the vet out but i am not going to waste my money if she is fine. don't think i am cruel or mean, i know my horses and i know when they need the vet and at the moment i don't feel there is alot a vet can do. i am speaking to the vet tomorrow about my other horse so i will chat to her about her then
