Horrified this morning after riding to find a bald pink sore about the size of a half pence (if you remember them) on the off side girth area near the elbow area. Have used the same girth on the same horse about 6 years - never the slightest problem. It is well looked after and flexible too. Its padded leather and very soft. Can't understand it. She's not recently clipped either, but she's been clipped every year before now anyway so its not that. I can rush out and buy a girth sleeve of course, but anywone have any thoughts or recommendations?

I assume you mean girth galls?
Sophie gets them; if and when they appear I put sudocream on and leave riding till the next day or so, next time you ride use a girth sleeve. That's all I do and they don't cause her a problem and she's not in any pain

I also get this problem which seems to occur in the winter when my horse has lost a little weight. I have tried all types of girth including sleeves and nothing helps apart from weight gain. The rubs are caused by the movement of the elbow rubbing the edge of the girth. Yes I agree with the sudocreme and a day's rest and the small sores do not seem to be causing much discomfort. By the way my horse is a TB!
