Jerry has a couple of little sores on the corner of his mouth (which I feel awful about btw) think it must of started when he took off with me out hacking (had to use quite alot of strength to stop) and then made worse by the lesson on friday.

My instructer had a look and said to carry on riding and it will toughen up, so my sister got on him on saturday (I was very sore after lesson on friday

) and after walking round once I told her to stop, as he clearly wasnt happy.

So have decided against instructers advice to rest his mouth for a week or so until it has healed up completly. My question is how do I toughen it up so it doesnt happen again when I put a bit back in? As the skin will surely be quite sensitive now

Thanks

Start slapping it on staright away. We had a horse come to us with an inch deep cut in each corner of his mouth - it healed within about 10 days.
Is the bit a loose ring, fulmer or eggbutt. Simply changing that could be the key. I ahve one that rubs in anything but a loose ring.
