It seems as though every saddle I ride in gives me sore seat bones. I can't figure out whether my seat bones are on the edge of the saddle or not but it does hurt!! I am going to get a new seat saver but I can't quite understand why this is happening. I don't think my saddle is too small for me - I've always ridden in a 17" and its been fine. I'm 5'4" with a fairly sensible leg length and 9 stone. I think its only been in the last 18 months that its started happening. I sit pretty level and have regular chiropractor sessions to keep me straight but something isn't right.

Please tell me its not just me and lots of others have this issue too?

Riding started pretty major coccyx pain for me , for which I have had lots of treatment and nothing has helped. Stopped riding for a bit, but now just put up with it as life (sitting) also causes me pain. But doesn't sound the same .. ?

not being flippant - have you changed style of breeches or undies?
- can start a problem that you can then sub-consciously start to 'save yourself from' and sit slightly differently.

I get this if riding for any length of time, more than 2 hours and I have to get off and walk the rest of the way ? now I just tend to not ride atall and use the excuse of needing to be on foot if my daughter needs a hand with her quirky pony

I get seatbone pain too and it's (thankfully) nothing like coccyx pain. After I ride they feel almost bruised, I'm 5'4 and 8 stone. I've always assumed it's a lack of *ahem* 'padding' especially as my jump saddle doesn't have a particularly well padded seat!

It may be that you are actually sitting better and on them more equally, doing a lot of hacking in walk is usually the worst especially if you are trying to sit up and engage your core rather than slopping along, some saddles are definitely worse as are some horses due to the way they move, a really good seat saver will help.

You can get arthritis in your set bones and yes it makes riding very painful at times with the seat bones feeling very sore and bruised after.
I bought a heathery moffat seat bone saver not cheap but for me it was fantastic, in fact it's one of very few items I have not sold since selling my horse as I would not ride without it now.

I have this trouble too. I have a gel pad on my saddle but still have issues. I think itsto do with the way my horse moves that aggravates the situation.

I dont get any aching or pain sat on the saddle of a spin bike at the gym so can only assume its the rolling action that aggravates the situation.

I'm overweight so dont know if that exacerbates the situation. I can go about an hour hacking in walk then start to suffer but on fun rides where the pace is varied have little or no issue.

It started off in 2004 on a bridle rides holiday with long hours in the saddle and never went away again.

Avacallo seat saver here we come - gel in or out?

Gel in can mark your saddle, and definitely don't use the side straps that go under the panel, they dent flocking and will damage foam over time. If you're genuinely finding this an issue in saddles no matter how deep or shallow, how wide or narrow a seat, then you might have developed seatbone bursitis, no idea what can be done. I have some discomfort just inside and to the front of one seat bone and I don't even ride, and struggling to find what's wrong let alone getting it sorted.
