I have decided (I think) that I will have to rehome my miniature stallion Mo, not because of anything that he has done but because he winds Dennis up so much (horse in my sig pics). I am so afraid that Dennis will hurt himself again (have told his story on here before). A couple of weeks ago I moved them around meaning that Dennis and Mo are next to each other but with a track of about 15ft in between. They race up and down the fence line, I had hoped this would settle down but Dennis fell over doing a sliding stop (raining slippery grass) and its antics like this where he jars his shoulder. I have spent so much money in vets fee's etc on Dennis I can't afford any more!! He has always had this Kamikaze streak and is very boisterous and playful. Morris trotting up and down the fence line sets him off and I can see this getting worse when I put them out right next to each other when they move fields again. My heart is in my mouth every day when I turn them out and its stressing me out no end!

I have thought of gelding Mo but I don't think that will make a difference because it is Dennis who is trying to play with him - gelding or not. I have to have them next to each other otherwise I would have to put my girls next to Mo which is not a good idea.

I have never sold a horse in my life and am very worried about finding him the right home.

I've come up with this advert.

40" IMHPS and AHS registered, 5 year old, chocolate buckskin with spotted influence stallion.

Duel registered with the International Miniature Horse and Pony Society and the Arab Horse Society.

Sire: Limelights Zanzibar - Fallabella
Dam: Mystery at Darkhorse - Caspian / Arab

Morris is for sale through absolutely no fault of his own.

Boy can this pony move! He has a very big, eye catching floating trot and is of arab type.

He is sweet natured and easy to do with only the occasional nibble. Good to catch, load, teeth, feet and general handling. Lunges well.

Respects electric fencing!

Has been assessed by an AHS panel judge as worthy of being kept as a stallion.

Won one and only time shown under a miniature panel judge.

Good home my first priority and much more important than money.

So the thing is - how much do I ask for him?

Would it make that much difference to Dennis? You have said he's always had this kamikazee way of being so would taking the stallion away make any diffence to his behaviour? Is Dennis young? Some horses are always going to be like this unfortunately but generally when they get older they learn their limits balance wise - my horse used to run straight down the hills in our filed when he was about 4 and then would try and stop which generally resulted in him sliding over. He soon realised that he needed to come diagonally across hills and t SLOW DOWN! can you not put the two of them together or would this just mean they physically play with one another then?

Maybe you could try loaning Mo out first to see if it actually makes any difference? I thought miniatures were pretty popular so wonder if this is an option maybe for someone who would want to breed with him.

Thank you for your reply.

I bought Dennis at 2 years old and he's always had a self destruct button. Even the vet had strongly advised that he not be turned out with other horses ever again as the last time he was he was kicked in the shoulder (he was 4 and he's now 8) which has resulted in 35K being spent in vet, physio, rehab and farrier fee's - hence not being able to afford any more. I'm cutting a very long story short here! There is no malice in him whatsoever he is just VERY playful. He's also 16hh and Mo is nearer 10hh so its a no go really.

Although Mo would mix with other horses as he was kept in a herd of stallions before I got him. He does not back down from Dennis either and that makes Dennis try and play with him all the more.

I sincerely hope that Dennis does grow up but its not looking promising !!! He's a pure bred arab by the way.

I've only had Mo 6 months and everything was fine while they were in their winter paddocks, the problem has only really surfaced since I've moved them to summer ones. The winter ones are in dire need of a rest. Last year Dennis wasn't really expected to come sound again but now he has I don't want to tempt fate by him hurting himself again.

Mo is pretty unique and I've never seen another pony like him. I didn't want to loan him as a stallion as I don't want to encourage anyone to breed loads because its a freebie, if you know what I mean. If someone bought him I would hope that they would be more responsible. If I don't find the right home as a stallion I would be quite prepared to geld him and give him away. Actually I think he'd make a cracking driving pony as his paces are so eyecatching.

Hmm wont comment on a price as i know where he came from LOL!!! Have you asked Sharon as im sure she would be better at these things things me anyway!! She also may know who to approach re selling to make sure he got a good home as that does seem the most important thing to you. Im sorry things arent working out for you with him

Sharon knows as I cleared it with her first.

I didn't want to bother her with all her going's on. I'm going to try and pop in at the show if I'm not too tired from being at a show in Wales the day before though - are you going?

I had a price in mind but friends are telling me that is way too low, that's why I thought I'd ask here. Its really difficult because if the price is too low someone might only buy him to sell on (lie and fool me in the process) or of its too high the perfect home can't afford him.

I don't want to encourage indescriminate breeding, but at the same time it is a shame to geld something as unique as Mo.

I certainly won't let him go to just anyone, even if they offer me cash. He's such a sweetheart and it really isn't his fault so I have to do the very best I posssibly can for him.

Yes she's having a tough time at the moment isnt she. Yes will hopefully be at the show if i get my box back in time!!! ( off having living fitted!! )

Why not price slightly higher than you were thinking. Most people knock down prices anyway. If you advertise on the mini sites you will most likely get someone experienced with them anyway which should mean he gets a good home?

Problem on here is that not many people understand the value of minis ( no insults intended

If you do price towards the higher end, and someone is willing to pay, then chances are they will look after their investment!!

Good luck hope it works out and hopefully see you in a couple of weeks!
