My boy had his abscess dug out on Saturday by the farrier. I was advised to poultice until Tuesday and nothing else has come out - he's also now perfectly sound.
He's sound and as per farriers advice, I took him out for a walk yesterday - just a short hack and he was fine, no issues at all and keen to be out.
I left him without the poultice today - he's only turned out in the loose barn or in the surfaced paddock just to keep it dry.
I noticed tonight when I was having a proper poke about at it, that where the abscess was dug out is obviously still very sensitive - when I prod it with the hoof pick he reacts and pulls his foot away which being a stoic cob is a pretty big reaction for him.
Farrier is back on Friday to check but I just wondered if this is normal? I suppose getting a large part of your foot dug out isn't comfortable so I wonder if it is just related to this especially since he's otherwise sound and happy and nothing else has come out? Or could there still be something brewing and should I start tubbing and poulticing again?
I packed it with cotton wool and stockholm tar tonight and put the poultice boot back on but wondering if I should dry poultice or even wet poultice again just in case?
