Honest opinions please, IMO he's looking chubby. This pic was taken at a show this weekend.

He's an 8 Y/O ISH, but very 'Draft' like. He's fed 1 round scoop of pasture mix and 1 round scoop of Alpha A (split into 2 feeds). He's currently turned out 24/7 for the summer, but has restricted grazing (not that we have much in the way of grazing at the moment). He will start coming in for the winter in a couple of weeks time.

He's exercised 6 days a week (3 days of those morning and evening) with a combination of hacking, schooling, lunging and at least 1 day of jumping, plus usually 1 day of competition.

I would say he is fit, but can be on the lazy side by nature so also any feeding suggestions greatly received. :)

Lovely lad! :)

I have a similar type - 17.1h ISH who is almost pure ID. He is out 24/7 but we do have grass and he is getting fast fibre with his farrier's formula supplement and chopped oat straw to add bulk. If he is getting more work I add in staypower museli. I am not feeding near the level manufacturer's instruction as if I did he would do too well.

I found the staypower museli better than normal pasture mix when competing

What a nice and useful stamp. With the greatest of respect, I think he looks soft and lacking in a top line. More hill work would strengthen him up.

Feed wise, always follow the rule of more work than food. When I had a very similar type of horse to yours I used oats for a little more 'go'. Racehorse cubes were successful too. All in moderation of course. Another brand I found useful was DH competition mix, it is slightly molassed though.

I wouldn't say overweight .. But does need little more topline (working in an outline up and down hills would help) and fast work ( hard with a lazy horse and summer ground ;)) will tone up under his belly ..but agree he looks a lovely horse .. Certainly wouldnt mine him in my back garden ;)

Thanks for your feedback everyone, not sure why my photo has been removed? :(

He actually won this particular class, although admittedly there weren't many entries as a fairly small show. This particular judge also wasn't particluarly forthcoming with feedback.

He has placed in the top 3 consistantly througout the season with some good feedback from judges. As we are in Guernsey, we run our shows slightly differently in that they are all 'local' to an extent (well they have to be on such a small island!) But we fly in county level judges to our main shows who do comment on the good standard of entries so good feedback from them is very appreciated!

I just thought he was looking slightly more rounded than he did earlier in the season but this could well be down to the extended turnout due to the good weather we've been having. I will certainly increase his fast work and perhaps try a feed with a bit more 'ooomph' to increase his stamina. We do a fair amount of hill work but this can always be increased as well.

Thanks again all! :)

Oh just realised, pic must have been removed as it was ©! Oh well, here's another (just because he's handsome!) ;)

Didn't see the original pic, but from the head shot he looks a handsome dude. I think he would look better in a brown (or a lighter brown) bridle with a thicker noseband. But I think everything looks better in brown tack
