can anyone recommend something to put some weight on my 21 year old?

He's currently on 1/2 pony nuts, 1/4 chaff and 1/4 spillers slow release comp mix.
He also gets superflex, veteran powder and garlic.

I was thinking of putting him on 16 plus mix with the spillers to keep the energy levels but I'm open to suggestions as I've only had him one winter :)

16 plus sent my old boy absolutely crackers!!

He is now on Allen and Page veteran vitality, and fast fibre. He has supplements of instant linseed and Simple Systems Total Eclipse.

I would say if he has any stiffness issues at all to take him off all cereals and feed Veteran Vitality. It is soaked to a sort of mash, and soaks in 3 minutes.

My farrier and vet have commented on how well my 30 yr old TB looks since starting on the Fast Fibre and Veteran Vitality.

He lives out too, and has ab lib hay/haylage.

My 12 year old mare competed XC most of last year on VV and alpha oil and my old man (also hitting 21 ;) :D) is looking well on it. I feed it with readigrass and sugarbeet and he gets his sharks cartilage for his hocks and a plsach of peppermint cordial to cover the taste. If he needed more I would add linseed.

I would sub your chaff for VV as its fibre rich :) Also has pre and probiotics and fully vits and mins so you could stop the vet supp :)

Really we need a bit more detail! How big is the horse/pony and what work is he doing? What are the actual quantities fed - not sure whether you are feeding half a scoop (in case what type of scoop) or half a kilo or half a pound!

How many hay/haylage does he get and does he live in or out? When did he last have his teeth done? Does he live in or out and what is the grazing like?

so vv comes highly recommended :)

I could stop the pony nuts an chaff and just feed vv and spillers?

Potentially yes :)

Kia is about 500kgs tops and he gets a full heaped scoop of readigrass (large round scoop), half a large round scoop of VV dry then add two scoops of water then he gets a full round scoop of sugarbeet :) He gets this am and pm and he goes back and forwards to it doesnt gulp in the one go :) Basically a fibre feed anyway ;)

Hes on two large haynets a dau and daily turnout is a 14.3hh Welsh x poor doer and if you have a look at some of my threads you will see he aint looking poor lol :D

16.2hh kwpn, last weight-taped at 518kg in september.
He gets worked for 1hr 5 times a week - mixture of flatwork, jumping and hacking and possibly some xc in the future.
quantities are in scoops and he gets fed twice daily.
He lives in. the grazing isn't particularly good and he's out from 8-3.
He gets 5 haynets if he's in and 3 if he's out (8kg/net) - basically, he always has haylage.

Teeth were done in september and the vet was happy with them - he's not having any trouble eating.

thanks :)

ETA: he's going to be barefoot from january

Definitely Rowan Barbary's Readymash Extra - great stuff for getting weight on - I tried everything and this is the only thing that worked with my TB.
Micronised linseed is also good.
