Sorry for another fitness post, but i think i have got myself into a bit of tough situation!

I have a ODE 2'6-2'9 in just over four weeks! And am starting to panic about my horses fitness, i was asked to be in the team before christmas and so thought i would have plenty of time to get him fit, but 3 weeks off in january due to snow and horrid weather since then has meant haven't been able to do much! I have a field to lunge in and decent off road hacking, but only busy main roads. Will be having two 1 hr lesson every week, but not sure about how to get him fit enough? He was ODE fit up until november, any tips on how to do this? Obviously if it can't be done i will pull out, the team can go without me, i don't want to do any damage so early in the season!
Sorry for such a long post! I'm just stuck

I just posted something similar, in almost the same situation as you!! My problem is time, I can only get home to ride 2-3 days a week and have 6 weeks to get eventing fit! If you have good off-road hacking I'd make the most of it - with my old eventer we used to mix up fast, 45 min hacks with minimal walking and all canterwork done at eventing speed, with much longer 2hr + rides where we mixed up the speed a lot and spent plenty of time walking - this seemed to work pretty well!!

The other thing I'm trying with my new horse is 20-30 mins of flatwork in the morning, a breather (for 10 mins up to a few hours depending on how much time I have!!) then getting him out again for another 20 mins of jumping - kind of mimics what he'd have to do in a competition with the first 2 phases, but lets him get his breath back when he's not fit enough to do a full 45 mins or 1hour workout!

Hope some of this helps!!
