Some of the dressage saddles i am looking at seem to say "medium fit" but only measure 5 inches from D ring to D ring, Do dressage saddles come up narrower across the front than normal saddles to compensate a higher pommel?
in other words, if my saddle my gp saddle measures 8 inches across would i get away with a narrower dressage saddle?
( sorry if i have confused you)

there are actually no standard sizes in this country so what one manufacturer calls medium can be narrow in another make. If your saddle is 8 inches across in a GP and that fits then you need to make sure the dressage saddle is the same, but you need a saddle fitter to ft it for you. One make may look narrower but padding is different or tree is different with differing header plate and points.

The only way to be 100% sure of the fit is to buy a Bates with the changable gullet system. For about £15 you can change it to any width fitting you want & it only takes a screwdriver & about 5 minutes.
